I've just bought myself a '93 Audi 100E Avant (pics to follow when I've cleaned it properly). It needs some exterior titivation but I also want to do a bit of playing. Mainly because my Dub-nut nephew will give me no end of grief otherwise.
The obvious thing to do is to take a chunk out of the ride height but I don't want to go mad as it has to a) remain practical b) still get on and off my drive.
Has anyone got any experince of a) cutting the springs b) using lowering springs on one? The budget won't stretch to coilovers.

don't cut your springs, its not safe for a start. if you can get a springs and shocks kit that way the shocks are made to work with the springs. if you just put springs on you might find the ride is a bit harsh. but i know a few people that run lowering springs on standard shocks.

don't cut your springs, its not safe for a start. I'm sorry, that answer is incorrect. Not only are cut springs entirely safe, they are specifically allowed by the latsest update of the MOT manual. The only requirements are that they still function as springs (ie can't be rigid or sat on the bumpstops) and that they re-seat properly after the car is jacked up.

Most things are safe as long as they are done correctly . In this case I can't advise I am afraid. With the VAG boys Eibach seem to work quite well and not lose you much of your ride quality.

Further question:
Does anyone know if the badges on the tailgate are glued or have pins too. I fancy removing them as the paint around them is manky and the chrome is a bit pitted but I don't want to paint the panel.

Badges are stuck on with that trim tape stuff, so an easy mod there!
You may need to mop the panel after, as years of carwashing usually leaves ghosting of the badge area.
