ive owned my old retro cruiser for 20 years now and its had many looks and styles over the years, the more recent one being the most known.
so last year while driving to the classic ford show at santa pod she was missing real bad,and throughout the summer.....and right up to the retro track day last august she was driven regardless.
tax came round and there wasnt anything in the "car fund" to pay for it.
so a quick refurb was in order instead....
the interior is coming out and will be redone with buckets front and back,a half cage and new centre console etc....in red green and black!
green marble dash will be red and black carbon instead and teh list will get longer as time passes.
first thing was to get the sump swapped for one with an oil in pipe.
you can indeed change the sump without removing the engine but for the love of god, don't bother! mounts undone,blocks of wood on the trolley jack, car on ramps,engione turned till all was tdc and dizzy cap was removed and we're off.
jacked the engine up as far as I could then climbed onto the slam panel and bounced the car downwards . the engine was kept up thanks to a length of box section running from wing mount rail to the the oppsoite one and was roped to the exhaust manifolds.
car goes down, engine stays up and we're off.
turns out the engine needs to be really high to get the sump off,it fouls on the bell housing real bad. I had to undo the bottom bellhousing bolts too.
sump off and then I offer the new all rubber gasket up to the bottom of the engine......poxy job!!!
teh all rubber gasket is off a mk3 granada and is so much better than the cork one thats normally fitted on mk2's. teh annoying thing is that it needs pressing into the block at teh crank ends and the side drop down. silicon , swearing ,blood and a bust lip later and its done. thankfully the oil return spout cleared the engine mount (i never checked so I was lucky).
next the mill was lowered back done and the manifold (ns) was removed and front pipe dropped. offered up the turbo manifold and it may as well have come off a cortina......didnt fit at all.
as it stands at the moment I'm taking it back off to drill out the holes and ill fit a new stud in the block as one looks real worn.
as you can see in the pics,the turbo set up is a long one,the carb sits in front of the turbo and the turbo draws through it.
the next problem,as of I needed any more was the power steering pump is in the way nowand ive also been advised by someone who consider the most knowledgable person in mk2 granadas and turbos that I need to get the pas pipes away from the turbo. I may look at going the electric pump way and itll free up the engines power too.
as it is right now, the turbo manifold will be removed again on friday and ill take it to get the engine facing spouts machined flat and ill buy some exhaust studs.
