Another of my own "barn finds" I already own LOL. I have to move the Capri from its current storage to another lockup. Meh. So its been siting for 2 years where it is and its been burried under a ton of junk. So I had two things to do... 1. clear all the junk 2. see if the car will roll. I should feel guilty about this but I am past all that now. So I took one complete Chrysler-load of stuff to the tip. It always pains me throwing stuff away but do I really need a 1940s typewriter and a bunch of spares for a 1967 Rambler? No. So to the tip they go. Next is to load up the stuff worth keeping (or rather the stuff worth eBaying) into the Chysler and then see if the Capri will move. Of course it wont. So I had a fried egg cob from the cafe over the road while I wait for a couple of mates to turn up, manage to get egg yolk all over the bonnet, nice, and then we spend some considerable time trying to get the pads out (no chance) trying yo gently ease the discs free of the stuck calipers with 3-in-1 and again no chance. So in the end they eat bacon butties while I whack hell out of the discs and calipers with a 3 oz hammer until something gives, oil up the discs like a hungarian massage parlour and pop the wheels back on the front and they turn. One of them well, one of them only just... Anyway at this point we decide to see if the car rolls, three of us can JUST push it and we manage to get it about 1 foot forward. And then it stops. And its siezed. And we can;t push it back in either. And we can't close the garage door. And I have to be home in an hour... So up goes the back of the car, one wheel is free but one wheel is so siezed up that its actually dragged along the floor without turning... So off comes the wheel and rather than pee about trying to free stuff off properly I pulled the drum off, bolted the wheel back direct to the end flange , dropped it back on the deck and she rolls. Hooray! Next installment is trying to get the car out of the garage onto a trailer and over to the new lockup... Sunday I chilled out, visitied people and generally lifted no tools.

Its a 2.0GL with the dartboard steelies. The colour is Highland Green which is a Mk3 colour. It was originally Diamond white. Here it is when I first owned it in 1989 and about 1991 after the respray This was my grandad's car. Odd thing is that this car has only ever changed hands when the owner died. First owner bought it new, then died a few years later (1984 I think?) and my grandad bought it off his widdow. Then he died and I inherrited it. Its been stored for years now. Waiting for me to get arround to doing something with it. Its never been welded but the front wings are both shot, the rail at the top of the inner on the driver's sde is also shot. IIRC theres some bubbling in the A panels and one rear arch doesn't look too clever. It only had 36,000 on the clock when I got it, its got 69,000 on it now. But I bet the engine is well seized.

years ago I spoke to a rep of the Capri Club and aske dhow many of the Mk2s got a green plaid interior as I'd only ever seen one other (and that was in a scrap yard) and he said he'd never seen one at all. Apparently the green interior is well rare. With the green int and white paint job it could have been a promo car for Pacers (remember them? LOL)

while I whack hell out of the discs and calipers with a 3 oz hammer until something gives Did you really mean 3oz hammer? Surprised you're not still there trying Looks like a cool machine. Think the MkII looks a shedload better than the MkIII. And good luck for when you finally do get stuck into it!

And then stopping to eat a 4mm diameter egg sandwich.

Well the egg cob was an odd one, they'd run out of cobs so I ended up having it in a small baguette, with the two fried eggs side by side with the brown sauce kinda in a pool in the middle of them. Most odd. Definitely not right. However with the right soft bread I trhink it might be possible to construct a version of the American "foot long dog" but in a fried egg bap format. You'd need about half a pint of brown sauce to carry it off, and I wouldn't weant to be down wind of the consumer for the rest of the day but it would be proteintastic.

Great story Why do Mk2s always seem to be unloved compared to the others There used to be a rotting Mk2 around the corner from me, it looked to be painted up in JPS colours Well the egg cob was an odd one, they'd run out of cobs so I ended up having it in a small baguette My mate Rich is from Nottingham. We went to a sandwich shop in the city centre once and I was asked if I wanted what ever it was in a baguette or a "cob". I must have looked very bemused, never heard of 'em!!
