Despite what I said in my last thread I am no longer looking for a Delica as this came along, after running insurance quotes for business use I just couldn't do anything bigger. Insurance on this is £1200 a year with my 5 years NCB! Delica was 3 times that. ;D Its a 1.9 SDI (Suction Direct Injection) so no turbo but having driven the van it doesn't need one. this is the van I'm certainlly happy with it, although insurance at over £100 a month is fairly eye watering but its got to be had and I need the van. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160815921262?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_579wt_1270I will be picking it up on Tuesday. As you can see from the ebay photos it needs a small amount of tidying up so I'm after some inspiration as to what I can do with it. Its got to look good as for a mobile mechanics work van its a big advert especially as I'm specializing in older vehicles.

Wow, where on earth were you trying to insure the Delica? Direct Line were only £400/year for me...

That was running various price comparison searches. The problem is that i'm 22 and the NCB is tied up in other cars

And, of course, you have Class 1 business use to pay for - not always cheap.

Direct Line include class 1 - have done for ages.
Every time I try those comparison ones, Direct Line are cheaper for me - and they haven't rejected imports, either (eCar and Elephant have when I've gone for quotes). 22 might be an issue (but again, one reason I use DL is that if you've got multiple cars with one driver, they match NCB and apply discounts).
OTOH, they have refused to insure a Renault Master as it was a commercial vehicle.

Everything needs a turbo. hmmm SDI = 50 +mpg TDI = 35 - 40mpg. Its a fair difference and the insurance difference is huge.

My only experience of a non-turbo-diesel van was a Mk3 Fiesta we had at work when it was fairly new. Goddamn was it slow...

Let's just repeat this mantra until it sinks in. Everything needs a turbo. Everything needs a turbo. Everything needs a turbo. Everything needs a turbo. Everything needs a turbo.

Yeah they were terrible, thankfully VW 1.9's are amazing engines, the base 90bhp tdi, feels actually fast never mind nippy, the sdi's are still nippy and very responsive, try a 130 or 150 in a mk4 golf, superb grunt!

It could become interesting to be fair. SEAT front ends look good on these, I actually like the black plastic bumpers edit: oh, nearly forgot

Just been rifling through all the paperwork and service history and found something rather good. although the odometer shows 127k the seller neglected to mention that it had a new engine fitted by a vw main dealer 40k ago, if he had mentioned that he might have got a fair bit more cash. Oh well his loss is my gain in this respect.
Incidentlly it also once got an advisory for smelling of wet dog ;D
