I may be offered a decent W123 rolling shell (everything minus engine effectively) which doesn't need much welding.
Also offered with it is a 300td engine out of a W201 E class.
Now this to me sounds like an amazing opportunity and after a bit of reading, it seems that the engine just bolts straight up into the W123 using some S class engine mounts (could someone confirm this?) with flat plate spacers?
The question I have is.. what are my options for getting the thing to run (with/without ECU) as cheaply as possible, and what gearbox do I go for (again.. ECU is the thing causing me doubts!)?
Finally, I understand the OM606 are near bulletproof up to about 350hp on stock internals.. is there any way to get it up to this power level without resorting to new bits.. i.e. scavenging the used mercedes parts bin?
Don't really need a 5th car with a westfield chassis in the garage, but at the cost of some crates of beer, this is getting hard to resist, and I don't want a W123 to go to the scrappy!
Cheers all
