All those of you with matt black cars, ever asked yourself what's underneath it? Wag? Crash damage? Odd coloured panels? Or Cool Flames???Started rubbing the front end of the t3 down earlier today, had seen the outline of some wavy lines ages ago when i was going mad with the red primer. Only when the red primer, and then the matt black underneath started to come off did the full extent of the coolness become apparent. Huge yellow flames on a bright red car anyone? Sadly for some reason there's a square patch on the nearside at the front without any flames on, maybe an aborted respray? fibreglass looks ok from the inside so i don't think it's been crashed. They'd have carried onto the doors too, had the doors not been in my garden and replaced with proper quarterlighted ones. They look really well done, they're symmetrical and have some funky crossover bits. They also have orange tips.

it does look cool, but i'm in two minds what to do with it.... wasn't really the 'look' that i was aiming for, and also the big missing patch on the front and the replacement doors sort of ruin it. it's the kind of patina you can't make up though. as far as i can tell the car was last sprayed properly in 1991

The matt black on the Polo covers up a very faded curse word respray! Adam Yes it is... The matt black on the Audi bonnet is hiding filler, rust and a shoddy paint repair that only covered the front 6 inches done by the previous owner

What's it hiding? Not alot. Except every shade of primer under the sun! Oh and that's satin, for those who care

And that matt balck was some aweful stuff that never set, so it clogged the paper after like one or two passes. We were at that thing for weeks sanding that off. It was brush painted on about 1/4 inch thick.

pillock, that is awesome!
i can see why you are so tempted to keep them. However, if you are after a nice paint job then i guess it will never be that. Tough choice.
Seth - did you flame the oxford yourself?

I say, photo them, copy them, maybe even take atemplate by tracing them, then you can recreate them on your funky new paint job.

Seth - did you flame the oxford yourself? Yep, twice on the front wings! First time was done on the street outside my student digs in Manchester. This pic is re-doing the front wings (slightly differently) outside where we are now. Pillock, that's pretty cool to unearth earlier signs of modding!
