Wow that is insane, I had never heard of the Brum Superprix before and I have lived in Brum all my life  Found this great thread on another forum with the history of it and lots of photos  |

Excellent footage, except for Murray Walker. Never been a fan. It's a shame street racing this country doesn't happen like that anymore, it brings a whole load of people into see motorsport that usually wouldn't bother... Looks strangely sunny for Brum too, sure it ain't Aus?  ;D |

 Oooooh, the irony contained in this picture of the straight up Peter Barwell Hill  Is it just me that longs for the difference in attitude between then and now? Is it so impossible that the general public's attitude to the car and safety can be reversed? Are we any better or worse than anyone else in this respect? And is there even an answer to those questions? EDIT: Actually, I've just realised that the Swiss are worse than us. |

i don't remember those days but the S bends in birmingham city centre are still kinda there.
They were very big for illegal street racing a few years back but have since had concrete bollards and raised kerbs to prevent any more racing by the local "cruising" scene.

i can just about remember it, there are still bit of armco out the back of the markets by the bullring. you could hear the cars from my house about 10 mile away. i would have been about 4. they should bring it back although i doubt the streets of brum are up to it unless they raced 4x4. its was the noise poluttion which finally killed it off and the ever increasing speed of the sport meant it was becoming dangerous

i remember going to the super prix and getting drunk as a skunk.I nearly fell over the safety fence too.....how embarressing....mind you,i was a little younger then..lol
I also remember how loud the cars were coming down the straight....

Good grief. That was brilliant! Just like BTCC today, a quick nudge and through!
Bit different watching those back ends snaking around though.
My Dad always used to take me around the circuit after the Super Prix so we could look at all the tyre marks.

I've been watching some of the Police Camera Action reruns and to be honest I think we are loads better off in terms of safety. 10-15 years ago looks like a different world on that show. They should bring back the Midlands Monaco though. |
