Hello.Lurked for quite a while before joining and posting this. Its going to be a long term project .I shouldn't be alone there then? I have had Retro bits and pieces in the past, Merc W124's and Bmw E38/E30's which I do miss. So I thought I would buy this whilst on a car ban from my Missus. Ohhh. The beating I took. But i'd like to think it was worth it. Excuse the well known auction site pictures. All sorts of ideas running about my head, LPG and Megasquirt being the main one and airspring/bags later. Gas and Air. Worst areas are This is the nsr sill arch suspension area. But steady progress is being made. and then leading to All done here at home......

Wow! An R-R on RR! Seems very appropriate!
Always fancied a Royce, looks like you've got some work to do there!
Excellent looking repairs so far! Keep us posted!

Thanks,I'll get more info and pictures up as I go. xbollox: It was cheap.Mine was the only bid.....i've been caught out like this before. I'd say the Massa you have is in better nick. All the panels are straight forward make and or replace. IF you look at one, make sure it's complete with nothing missing. Really it needs to run drive and stop. This one did in a fashion when I got it. It should be blue by the way

You da man! I love it when folk are not scared of 'having a crack at' some old monster like this and just wade on in. I reckon a shonky one of these might be right up my street, in fact I have just done a quick eBay scan to see what one costs.

Well that's something I never expected to see on RR, and the plans sound very sensible. Really want to have a drive in a Rolls one day, not that it would ever be my Rolls that I was driving.

Great looking fab work there already What's that cylindrical object in the first underneath photo? A damper on an engine/subframe mount??

I don't know why the guys in PPC mag haven't done it to their track day Rolls, but wouldn't that RR grill lend itself very well to be made out of an intercooler in aluminium? Inlet at the bottom and then outlet at the center top directly into the intake in the V8?

What's that cylindrical object in the first underneath photo? A damper on an engine/subframe mount?? Yes, It is a suspension damper. There to stop/slow forward a backward movement of the rear suspension mounting beam. As I said earlier get one that runs and drives. this one had problems which I wanted to sort before going any further. A badly blowing exhaust manifold that had been gummed up with 'paste over the years. This was removed and retapped,This lead to checking there was nothing major (read expensive) on the hydralic front. The engine needs to run for the 'pressure hence the exhaust manifold 1st.The pumps are mechanicly driven in between the 'heads in the vee. First problem was red ATF where there should be green LHM
And grinding paste in the 'tanks
Once these had been sorted the 'system came right.Even self bleeding.....all over the floor from a return pipe. But not before all the lights had gone out and it sat up. Nice.

Did my mechanics training on these and always wanted one, great to see someone taking the bull by the horns and getting stuck in. Definately bookmarked.

Great project. Been lucky enough to drive one of these and a Bentley of a similar age. One car I would swap Merc ownership for

Very interesting.
I thought a V12 Jag was about as far as the DIY man could go.
Would love a T1 Bentley but I imagined that even with the body repaired (its only metal etc) your problems could be unsurmountable with the rest of the car.
Thought you might need endless amounts of special tools etc.

Don't seem to remember there being too many special tools on these later cars. The earlier Shadows, T series and Camargues etc all had split brake accumulators ( spheres) that needed a special tool to split them but these later cars have one piece screw on ones very much like the Citroens ( if i remember rightly). The hydraulic pumps on the tappet chests can be stripped and re lapped in if they start tapping. Like foxy99, i would love a Shadow or T series but don't have the space or the disposable at the moment. Really looking forward to seeing this done, live the dream old son, i would imagine there are an awful lot of us reading this that wish we could do it.
