E85 would do if anywhere actually sold it.
This is not a madcap scheme. I believe I may have a condensation issue in my fuel tank, water in the petrol. Water and petrol do not mix. Water an alcohol do. Alcohol and petrol do. Add alcohol to the paetrol tank, the water/ethanol and petrol all go through the system together and dry out my tank.
Apparently in northern US states they add 10% ethanol mix to petrol at the pump to prevent condensation issues.
Random fact of the day.

make it, although you'd have to get a licence to make fuel. When mixing ethanol with petrol it has to be analhydrous (sp?) quote - But the only kind of alcohol which will mix with gasoline (petrol) is 100% (200 proof) ethanol. If you have any water content in your home-made ethanol, it will separate out once you mix it with petrol. Water is heavier than gasoline, so it forms a thin layer at the bottom of the fuel tank of you car. from here - I am getting really interested in making my own fuel, and running my imp on ethanol. J

alistairk in da house: Apparently in northern US states they add 10% ethanol mix to petrol at the pump to prevent condensation issues.
Here in Sweden they add 12-15% ethanol to all 95 octane gasoline and it's a pain for those who drive older cars, mopeds & small motors, bikes with plastic fueltanks and in general everything with rubber hoses or o-rings (not made of Viton) in the fuel system. We have had ethanol in 95 octane since 2000 and most of our vintage car community is running 98 octan (that has no ethanol), then we have those who have done ethanol coversions on 80's & 90's cars and are running E85 and slowly most of them are encountering problems, I ran my Shop Hack Skoda on E85 last summer and could not understand why 2 fuel pumps gave up, have found out that the o-rings inside have melted, must be because of the E85 so today it only gets 98 octane....
In the Hot Rod Community over here many has started to run E85 since the motor runns alot cooler (= smaler radiators = slimmer nose = better looks) but they are aware of the problem and are basically running stainless/nylon fuel hoses and staying way from rubber in the fuel system....
We had major problems at work with mopeds that would not start, had some gooie stuff in the carbs untill we figured out that the ethanol mixed into the fuel made the plastic fuel tanks flake out plastic that melted and stuck in jets, since recommending our customers to ONLY use 98 octane we have none of this....
Here in Sweden at the moment Volvo, Saab and Ford E85 car top the new car sales but all of them have special fuel systems that han handle the corrosive alchohol fuel mix....
DP says: Where you can buy it I don't know but I would stay away from alcohol unless it's in a tumbler on the rocks....

I'm only after running a couple of gallons into the tank to "dry" it out rather than running it on it permenantly.
I've heard mixed reports from the US on E85.

well ethanol is just grain alcohol, same as vodka whiskey etc, rubbing alcohol / denatured alcohol is the same thing too. Ive got nylon fuel lines with stainless steel fittings, and a bosch fuel pump. I'm hoping things like the FPR and injectors can take the ethanol. Its all worth it for the 120 octane and no need for an intercooler By the sounds of things it dosent dry it out, if its 100% alcohol with no water in it then it will mix with the petrol but not the water. If its not 100% then it will mix with the petrol and the water will leach out an settle at the bottom of the tank. Then again i have no experience! What do the commercial drying solutions contain? J

Aye, thats a PITA though and its got about 10 gallons in it still... I dropped and drained one before which was only on a quarter full on the gauge and I nearly cried at the sight of it as the container I'd used had prevously had diesel in it so it was all wasted. I'm not even 100% that there is a condensation issue. Just wanted a "be sure" option.

What about meths? That's about 98% ethanol with a small amount of methanol added to make it undrinkable and purple dye.

I`ve got to admit that would have been my option, but then again I would never have considered the possibilty of mixing ethanol to dry it.

I think meths is the answer. A litre or so in 10 gallons can't do any harm either way, can it? LOL
