Hi guys looking at an axle upgrade for my opel kadett. First 2 choices of Manta a or isuzu piazza is proving difficult as I cant find any. But I was wondering if a mazda mx5 mk1 axle would fit. they are still quite plentiful, have the same pcd of 4x100 pcd and would be upgraded easily. if any one has some pictures of a rear axle, that will be great. and width as well. thanks

they don't have an 'axle' like a kadett, manta or piazza does. they're IRS with a complete demountable subframe, similar to an old jag IRS in appearance in terms of it having a centre cage that everything is mounted to, except they're proper twin wishbone with CV joints.

yeah had heard from pop, but was wondering if it would go in. I'm going to be cutting the bulkhead and transmission tunnel out anyway.

You could probably get it to work, but it won't be a simple bolt in
as it's a double wishbone there wont be the space without extensive modifications where the rear seat is!
though you could probably convert to struts from a FWD car!
what sort of power is it needed to take?

I just threw away a complete MX5 subframe/diff/driveshafts! If you'd posted this up before the weekend you could have had it all very cheap just to try out.
As Ian says, I reckon it'll be a lot of work but they are great units if you aren't afraid of chopping the rear floor up a bit.

The idea of advertising a car being broken is that you request parts you want. Not being a mind reader I'm afraid I new nothing of your desire for a rear subframe/diff set-up. You knew I was breaking the car, you should have let me know I've got the bits you have requested put to one side for you though....

I've fitted IRS axles in Manta's and it's nightmare. MX5 rear axle is quite wide too (56.2") i have a B Series manta axle but thats 55.4" wide

I was going to narrow it down to -1" narrower than standard, tub the rear inner arches and try and get some 8x15 Boranni wires on it... :-D
