Hi just wanting to no what would be the best things to do to my 1L mk3 polo coupe to make it faster, not wnting to do a engine conversion so need to get as much power out of it as possible

Unfortunately there's nothing you can really do to give you any more power that costs less than just putting a bigger engine in.

I'm going to echo the above. The little 1043cc thing is lovely and all that, but perhaps you need a car that is more suited to your appetite for speed, or just accept that it's quite nice to bumble about within the speed limit  |

Speak to your insurers first. You might find they only increase the premium a small amount for a 1.3 transplant. On the other hand they might double it for a fitment of bike carbs  Paul h |

A louder exhaust will make it sound faster, which might make you happy. I find that a lot of the 'sensation of speed' in cars is related to hearing the engine noise and ripping through the gears. It won't actually be any faster though.

10 grand will get you a custom engine setup, roller bearing turbo and a stand alone fuel mangement system! Oh and 2 big tanks of NOS!

Spend another £3k, and get yourself some awesome garaphics too!  ;D The usual mods (exhaust, intake, cams) can release a couple of bhp, but your insurance WILL go up - quite possibly costing more than a standard car, with more power to begin with I'm afraid |

Insurance will kill you if you modify and declare, or if you modify and crash without declaring.
Get it running as well as possible, get handy with the tools, get confident working on it and get ready for when you're able to afford to modify it and insure it.
Get old school with the engine, get all the inlet and exhaust ports and fuel system super clean and running as well as possible.

If you take a look on clubpolo, you'll easily find guides on what parts to add to the 1L engine to get it to 60-65hp, however the cost of these parts is pretty much equal to either the 1.3spi or the 1.3GT engine, so many people just go for an engine swap.

Save up and find a g40 lump and charger.. That my son, is the way forward.
