been there ,tried that, got snotty curse word at dvla informing me that " proof of posting isnt proof of reciept" even after I told her it was recorded all I got was another dose of "proof of posting blah blah blah" I give up,they seem to rewrite the rules to suit themselves.they suck a blue whales wang ;D But the whole deal with recorded delivery is that there is proof of receipt as the recipient has to sign a statement saying so i know that, you know that, everybody here probably knows that, but trying to tell them that? thats another matter.it would help if they weren't all called billy bob and liked banjo duets!

I do DVLA stuff at the post office or online where I can. The PO give you a receipt that you can wave at them and the online system gives you a ref no you only get when you've completed it. Never yet (touch wood) had a problem.
I did hear of an entirely new cock-up. Someone on a bike mailing list I'm on had to get a new driving licence as he was moving house. It came back without his motorcycle entitlement. The response: "You'll have to take your bike test again". He got it back after raising a LOT of agro, MPs, lawyers etc.

I've heard of this onmore than one occasion. Sometimes its impossible to get it back if its been some time and you didnt notice.
I took several copies of my licence last time i had to send it away, I'm glad i did, it went missing. luckily i sent them a copy and they were ok dealing with it all.

oops i unwittingly switched into rant mode there, its just that last year i bought my volvo,i sent off my bit, owner sent off his bit and nothing for three months.kept calling dvla to be told its being processed or its being dealt with.i need the car to go to scotland in january just after the tax was due to run out, anyhoo a couple of weeks before i was due to go away i called them only to now be told,"we never recieved anything, you'll have to reapply, and that takes six weeks because we need to do security checks" no explanation as to why they had been telling me they had got it ,no apology, nowt! i ended up having to hire a car for the week.i am not best pleased with them

Theres been a problem with the DVLA removing emtitlements for a while. Its not unheard of for lorry drivers (or bikers for that matter) to send off their licence to have points removed after 4 years to recieve them back without the HGV entitlement. If you don't clock it straight away its tough! Loss of job, mortgage default, poverty, suicide..
Ont the other hand ive seen licences returned with additions on them too, fancy a bus licence wihout ever having driven one? mmm!
