hi all,i put my new daily drive pictures on the back of my g40 polovan thread and i wasnt realy intending on doing anything with it so wasnt realy bothered about starting a thread...well thats kind of changed,as it always dose with me lol and i thought i better do a post of its own so here we go... its a 1984 carlton estate,1.8,nearly 87,357 miles on clock,I'm the 3rd owner, full service history upto 80,000 all the old mots.it truely is a ebay find ;D body work is very good for year, infact under neith has been well waxoiled and is solid, the only real bit is the passenger side wing/front valance mostly due to stonechips been left untrated

not alots happened in the last couple of months untill yesterday,iv been trying to put off doing anything with the carlton till next year and get the van sorted this year, but I should have know better ..for those who have read my post in general section will know I'm trying to decide what wheels to put on the old bus,so yesterday I thought it was time to get it ready with the first step of lowering it... to be honest I though it was going to be a right pig of a job with most of the nuts not been removed since it rolled off the line at the factory..to my supprise every single nut came undone without any problems, while I had my head under the arch I had a poke around,i found acouple of bits that need sorting on the innerwing but nothing bad,i'll get some pics up whenn I get my backside in gear ;D anyway here's some pics of the bus lowered I like the result its not that low that it'll be scrapping its belly on speed bumps and its still a comfy ride...its nice to have the mix of the two cus the van's pritty hard

A no to two tone from me personally Throw a 2.0i 8v from an omega or vectra on it (use the 1.8 distributor thingamajob) for better power and fuel economy They look good low too.

;Dyeah iv seen acouple lower than mine and look good but for me thats about as low as I'm going,i still need to trailer the van when I go racing with it...as for the engine for the time being just because it runs so well i'll be keeping the 1.8 in but my future plans are a v6 transplant 2.5 or 3.0 ltr,i loved the 3.0ltr I put in my cavalier,i wish id still got that engine..... that'll be next year though......next will be the wheels/body tidying

I really like this. Sort the body issues to get it even minter and maybe a set of GM alloys. Doesn't need anything else IMO. The lowering job looks just right too. Personally I wouldn't do the two tone thing. A darker lower half body colour will make it look higher. If anything, getting the sills painted in body colour will accentuate a lower ride height. V6 sounds like a good idea though! A very good idea! ;D

Two tone like an Aussie Holden VL Calais wagon? They were based on the same body... Longer nose to fit the RB30 and 5.0 V8 from memory? Linky: www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=160619(EDIT an updated version of the VC - closer to your vauxhalls)

The V8's ended up being choked up by emissions laws, the RB30ET was the pick at the time (122kw vs 150kw)

That looks bloody gorgeous my good man...!!! My old man had one exactly the as that same back in the late 80's when he was a cabbie (well he still is now!) and it was a corking motor to be honest... You have got the ride height spot on so a nice V6 motor and some suitable 80's rims are definitely the way to go, I think subtle is the key to this one...
