fitting a ring gear to a steel flywheel

We used to do this a lot to Fords . Chisel through the old ring gear. Heat up the new one ,and slide on,when it contracts it will fit perfect. If you havent got any heating gear,bottles etc,what we did was build a small fire and stick it in that . Worked every time.

I use a propane roofing torch but in the past have also used flywheel in fridge and ring gear in domestic oven method !

Yup - worked for my parents when the ring gear randomly flew off the flywheel on their cortina.

Techincally, you're supposed to use an oil bath not a direct flame to heat them - that way you don't risk over-heating it and softening the teeth. Lot of people do use a gas torch without problems though.
