Hi, I am not sure what you are meaning, However.
A spanner with ring one end and open the other is a combination spanner.
A ring is either 6 point or 12 point, 6 point is called an OTS or 'off the shoulder'.
A ring spanner with a cutout is called a pipe spanner.
I hope this helps.

Do you mean a combination spanner (open one end, closed ring at the other), but one that only has 6 points - like the one on the left of this picture? if so, you'll probably struggle to find anything new. They were more popular in days gone by so second hand sources would probably be best. It's a good excuse to rummage through all those random tool stalls at car boot sales and autojumbles! ;D ;D Most (basically all) modern spanner sets are 12point so as to fit a wider variety of huts and bolts. you could trawl ebay or machine mart though, something might turn up. James * edit* Snap-On do them but prepare to remortgage, this one is only a single second-hand one! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Snap-7-16-Standard-Length-Combination-spanner-6-point-OSH14-/251031361367?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3a72a29757#ht_2502wt_1071*edit, again* (apparently searching for tools is eminently more appealing than actually completing my degree right now!) if you want them new, and a set of 10mm-17mm ones look here: buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?search=true&item_ID=633041&PartNo=OSHM707B&group_id=674993&supersede=&store=uk&tool=allbest have a rummage down the back of the sofa *edit, again..... again!* same set as above, but unsused 2nd hand, and in the UK. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SNAP-7PCS-COMBINATION-6-POINT-WRENCH-SET-10-17mm-/110879308806?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item19d0ebfc06#ht_500wt_1321now I really must get on with my work. hope this all helps, even if it hasn't, I like shiny tools, so it's been a nice distraction. thanks! James

depends what year your old cars were made but some of them are probably a/f and your metric spanners will slip so that 10-17mm set may be a waste of money.Ford IIRC started to go metric around 1970?

Mk3 cortina was the first "metric" car nut and bolt wise so yes 1970 (also Mk1 capri Mk2 escort, Mk1 granny), Mk1/2 cortina and Mk1 escort will be IMP.

Thanks Bortaf for confirming that the memory not what it used to be. If your running an early seventies car it's probably still worth having a set of a/f spanners, bolts replaced by early owners or anything aftermarket might use whatever was lying around. For example a mate's Capri was fitted with seat belts using 9/16 bolts.

There is always Metricinch spanners :-) Surface rather than edge drive spanners that fit all types - metric, AF, Whitworth. I've got a set but to be honest rarely use them as I've got full sets of others but useful sometimes on rusty nut and bolts where the hex has corroded so the correct sized spanner doesn't fit properly.
