In the process of a bit of a car cull my self at the minute and I have been breaking a Rover 220 diesel and a Citroen Xantia. They were both salvage cars that I have had sitting about waiting to start on but too many other projects getting in the way so I decided breaking was gonna be more profitable.
Anyway I decided to strip the xantia in my garage so all was left was a bare shell with a windscreen, problem being once front and rear subframes are off there is no way to move it, there is also no way to get my transporter in the garage.
A sensible person would have got a scrap skip in and chopped it up then chucked it in that, but as I was thinking long term I decided to knock up a small trailer I could use for shuggying cars around my yard that could be stripped back down so it took up no space.
That was the first job, I assembled it under the car while it was on axle stands and then lowered it onto the trailer.
Dragged its sorry ass outside and then started on stage two
Which was putting an A-frame gantry together to lift it off the small trailer and then lower it onto my transporter.
First part bolted together
Legs folded over ready for the hard part
Alle oop. Doesnt look it but thats a heavy fugga
Into your position Lesley
I got no more pictures after this as it started absolutely pisssing down then the wind picked up and the xantia started swinging like a pendulum do Damn shame as there was some propper comedy gold missed here.
Only problem is I made it 2.5m high to the gantry but with my block and tackle I couldnt lift it quite high enough for my trailer as I have to back up a drive to get under it so I had to stand on the trailer to lift the front of the car while my wife was reversing the disco & trailer then once th ecar was half way on I had to stand at the back and lift the back end of the xantia while she carried on reversing.
Just as well my back is a lot better (well it was anyway )
I just made it to the scrapyard in time to weigh it in at 12. Which is just as well as I was picking another car up this afternoon ;D
Parts back into there component form
Its all fun and games until someone loses an eye
