The carb on the Chevette is a bit leaky and is dripping fuel on to the exhaust manifold, which is never good. I understand that the Stromberg is a bit poo anyway, but I think it might be worth rebuilding iy to stop the leak and hopefully iron out a few flat spots.
Does anyone have any recomendations or companies that still supply service/rebuild kits?
Thanks Robin

Try Andrew Turner, he sells on eBay too. Really helpful bloke if you need to call for advice too! Personally I think the Stromberg has an undeservedly bad rep. If the carb is in good condition it will give good, reliable service.

There's a lot of stuff on Egay, but if you want 'that personal touch' I don't think you'l go far wrong with Andrew Turner Dealt with him in the past and found to be helpful and good service. The fully rebuilt carbs he offers aren't cheap, but they do look the danglies. He carries most stuff so you should be ok *damn, beaten to it by BB*

Burlen fuel systems can probably help.
However, I'd strongly recommend obtaining some Viton O-rings for the jet holder/float chamber seal: the Nitrile ones supplied with most kits don't last long with modern unleaded (mine started leaking within a month...). If you can't source them, the Imp Club has stock that will fit.

Thanks guys. James, Dave said your Imps got a very similar carb Stromberg on it and you'd have problems with it leaking.
Tried Andrew Turner who were very polite, but didn't have it. Tried Burlen had a service kit on the shelf £40 delivered, will be ordering on payday!

Burlen are the folks that manufacture all of this stuff and so are usually my first port of call. I was recently looking for Stromberg bits myself and parts listed on Ebay were more expensive than direct from Burlen.

Yup, mine leak (well, the rear one does), even with the Viton - although now they are just damp on the outside. Mine might be leaking from the cold-start device though - not sure. With the Nitrile rings they dripped quite badly. Otherwise not bad carbs if they aren't worn out. Just make sure you take your time fitting the diaphragm - you'll never get the mixture right if it doesn't seal properly.

Brilliant - for Weber bits. Not great for Zenith Stromberg bits.

In the Stag world I found the the same issue with the kits being supplied by specialists/ebay and it was not just a small markup. Agreed with James, on Stags the other types seem to leak quite badly!

I have heard about pressure regulators curing flooding/leaking Strommies but when a genuine SU pump throws out around 2.5PSi as standard it makes you wonder why they are needed unless an aftermarket pump is used . Also can't regulators starve SUs despite the pressure being set correctly on some occasions? The last one I can't see happening myself but others apparently have had that issue.

If it can't provide a high enough flow rate then that could starve the carbs but pressure shouldn't effect it
