SidewaysGTM and I did a scatter rally last night covering the north west side of Oxford.
The night started off at a pub just outside of town at about 7.30pm. Everyone was given a brief, detailing a list of 'blackspots'. These are areas that you are not allowed to drive in or drive within a certain distance of. These can be whole grid squares or a set radius (200m or 100m) of a six figure grid reference.
At 8.00pm we were given a list of 15 six figure grid references. We plotted these in the pub and decided on the best route to take and went for it.
The idea is to get to as many 'checkpoints' as you can, upto a maximum of 12 within 2 hours and get back to the start to be classified. At each checkpoint you are given a clue as to what to look for. Some of the clues included "What are the letters written on the gate post?" or "What is the last collection time on the post box?"
The checkpoints are graded with points, 1 to 3, depending on how far they are from the start. We decided on a clockwise route taking in some of the 1 pointers on the way heading out to the 3 3 pointers up to the North. We planned it out so we had a quick blast along a nice straight B road on the way back ;D
Being an ex-delivery driver help loads but some of the roads were unclassified and I'd never used them before, even Neil's car struggled to get along them as they were so narrow
It was great fun being out, it was dark, it was raining, there was patchy fog in places and the roads were very sketchy especially when you are in a car that has 265bhp/ton ;D
We got back at just before 10 luckily and finished 2nd which we were pretty pleased with, 21 points I think.
No pictures from last night, the weather was so cr@ppy but here's another of the Coupe...
(its much dirtier than this now and alot higher as Neil raised the ride height, luckily he did considering some of the roads we went on!!)
