bit of history: I was looking for a usable classic and had always fancied a w123. The idea being this was a car that me and the girlfriend could use for a few euro road trips/weekends away/etc. however, after many many weekends of messing about and getting it all sorted and on the road, she's said its far too big for her and she doesnt like driving it! (in her defence, her daily is a seat arosa which would probably fit in the boot of this!) so, I need to get rid and get something she's happier behind the wheel of!
prior to putting it in for an MOT last year, I did the following:
It went straight through its last MOT and the MOT guy commented on how together it was
It did however have the following advisories:
So, since the MOT, I have done the following:
so, its all up square and ready for summer!
MOT till the end of October and I've just put 6 months tax on it
spec wise its got
2.8L straight 6 engine with fuel injection - starts on the button hot or cold. idles well. good oil pressure. no weird noises. no leaks. about 170bhp.
4 speed auto box - all good.
4 elec windows, elec mirror, elec sunroof, cruise control - all working.
all in she's very clean and presentable. looks like she's had some paint in the past some of which isnt perfect but she shines up nice and turns heads. interior is pretty much mint. chrome is all good. has removable tow bar and tool roll.
its my first w123 and I really like it - so relaxing and comfortable to drive with build quality thats though the roof!
got orignal service book partly stamped up till around 100k, few old MOTs, owners manuals and receipts for all the bits I've done - few hundred quids worth. i'm only the 4th owner!
bad bits:
couple little rust spots coming through - certinly nothing to worry about for MOT's etc and doesnt detract from the overall look of the car. remember - shes over 25 years old!
one of the rear window switches doesnt illuminate with the interior lights

- brand new battery
- new genuine merc battery tray
- rear brake disks and pads and hand brake shoes adjusted
- good part worn tyre on rear
- new fuel tank filter and hoses/clamps
- exhaust back box
It went straight through its last MOT and the MOT guy commented on how together it was
It did however have the following advisories:
- both front tyres on limit
- slight play in steering
- noisy front wheel bearings
- slight blow from exhaust
- misc surface rust / oily components underneath (durr - its over 25 years old!)
So, since the MOT, I have done the following:
- 2 good condition part worns on the front (thats 4 good tyres all round)
- new track rods (complete) both sides and adjusted steering box
- Cleaned, re-greased and adjusted front wheel bearings
- Tightened front exhaust clamp
so, its all up square and ready for summer!
