I've got a weak alternator on my newly acquired 1999 VR5 'B5' Passat estate (which will probably be up for sale soon as I don't really like it - 3 too few cylinders dontcha know...!).
I need a replacement, mine is a 90 amp Bosch article and is numbered '071 903 016' - there are plenty of VW alternators on ebay with similar numbers (one or two are identical, but I like to widen my search options!).
Question is, does anyone know what alternators will work on my car? Does it have to be the same exact number, or would (say) a '058 903 016' work?
