	Hey I have a 1400 K in a little hot rod ,( Rubellion) and it has developed a misfire that is proving a little hard to diagnose. I'm now living in Canada , so there's no one out here with the diagnostic equipment for a Metro GTI , so i was wondering if any of you guys could share any pearls of wisdom you may have picked up on your travels , to save me having to put a smallblock in it ;D As soon as you start it , it coughs , farts and pops back , unless you disconnect the TPS , then it runs fine for a short time before it goes into closed loop and then it all goes tits up again.( at least thats the way it seems) I'm not , and have never, run an O2 sensor , but i'm at nearly 4000ft above sea level here , would that be an issue? Any help or cheats would be fantastic , and theres a bag of snow in the post for anyone who nails it!!! Spock

	I fixed a mates Lotus Elise that was kinda the same, the inlet manifold gasket was letting water into the inlet track. Was hell to get to but once done the idle and the running of the car was transformed. The inlet bolts were wet which gave the game away. Otherwise, on a seperate time, coilpack, leads and sparkplugs helped too. Also, you can't be running closed loop if you don't have an O2 sensor, you will be running of default values loaded into the ECU. This will be far from ideal but will only affect light throttle and idle. If you were to add the 02 sensor then mpg would improve and pickup so I would recommend it - or go OMEX and map the engine to get the best out of it

	What he said, it can't run closed loop without a O2 sensor so the ECU is already guessing. Fit an O2 sender if you can. Have you done an ECU reset? Ignition on, engine NOT running, press the accelerator to the floor and lift off about 10 times, turn off. That recalibrates the idle air valve and recalibrates the TPS. Things I'd also be looking at is the temp senders - blue and brown. Blue is for the dash brown is for the ECU. My Elise used to chew one or the other every 9 months. Inlet manifold gasket gives head gaskety type problems, steam, loosing water and steam cleaning one of the plugs, so no likely to be that. Check that the MAP sender pipework is intact, as well as the cam cover breather pipes. Remove th eidle air valve and clean it out with carb cleaner. Finally check the plug bores are all dry, because they are deep they collect water and cause miss fires. Let us know how you get on and more pics!
