Didn't they do a 300F version that was like 400bhp and had drum brakes and skinny crossplies?

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

I seem to recall the 300F was good for 160 MPH which must have been terrifying. Disc brakes were standard as were wider bias ply tyres on 15" wheels
Its all the same general platform as my 300, although as a non-letter car mine came with drums, 14s and skinnies.
Its bloody great.
Newports are the base/family version. The New Yorker is the posh/luxury edition. The 300 is the sporty one. Letter car is for heros. There was also a Saratoga version on the early cars which was a mid level trim.
Big Chryslers are for winners
"ugly"? get your eyes tested... The Forward Look series cars are delightfully well balanced, the razor edge style of the mid 60s is clean and purposeful and unfussy. (I'll admit the early 60s stuff is a bit oddball looking)

PS - '62 on is the "early 60s".
'61 is the last year of Exner's masterpiece forward look styling (although the '62 is kinda a carry over Exner hated them, saying without the fins they "looked like plucked chickens")
Seth's right though, Plymouth styling was distinctly "experimental" from about '59 through '63 or so. There are also some very odd Dodges about then also.

Seth, I like the Plymouth Valiants! In a very slightly modified form, they were built and sold in Australia as Chrysler Valiants. In their day, they absolutely blasted all other Australian-built cars off the road in terms of speed, styling and equipment. Still didn't let them outsell the mighty Holden of course, but if you wanted the fastest family sedan on the road in Australia in the early '60s then it was a slant-six powered Valiant with three-on-the-tree! Holden and Ford couldn't hot up their six cylinders to beat the Chrysler, so in response Ford launched the 289ci Windsor V8 in 1967 and Holden quickly followed with a fully imported (at great expense) 307ci Chevy small-block in 1968. Very soon after, Holden, Ford and Chrysler were all building V8s in Australia and the first Aussie muscle-car era was off to a flying start. If Chrysler hadn't showed up with the 225ci slant six in the Valiant then it might not have happened!

Oh, and a '66 Newport, 300 or New Yorker (same car, different grill and trim) is on my WANT list and has been for years

The wagon was stunning inside and out, didnt get the credit it deserved over here in the show scene always losing out to 10 a penny Mustangs and Corvettes, most people don't get station wagons. Its with a new owner in Sweden now More pics here rides.webshots.com/album/552359774BAmdra.
