I have been offered a '94 Volkswagen Polo 1043cc for very cheap but described as having this problem,
'IT STARTS ONE MINUTE,THEN IT WONT START FOR 3 OR 4 TURNS OF THE KEY IF YOU STOP AND TURN OFF'
What's the likely cause of this? i've not seen the car but its been offered me for £180 with tax and mot until September.
Not being very familar with polo's I just wondered if there any common probs that could cause this....

Try bouncing up and down in the seat while you turn the key. We ended up fitting a starter button. Because racecar!

Could be all sorts of reasons, current weakness is so far a popular answer and that's fair. Even then, anywhere along the line - bad live connection at starter/ignition/battery, or bad earth just about anywhere esp engine-body.
But if the starter is strong and it's just not firing, first thing i'd check is ignition spark. This can be very weak when the starter is operating. Clean strong earth connections again are a common fault there.

Could be just about anything in the ignition system, maybe even a cylinder head as the GL engines (pressuming that's what it is) suffer from this occasionaly. Even carbs can cause lots of fun stupid problems with starting/running on these cars! It is awful cheap though
