what would you recommend as i have seen the cheap 10-15 quid kits but are they any good?

i used a small hacksaw with my pipes, not the best but didn't have a cutter, the laser one does look better but the bloke is ripping people off with the postage prices

just make sure it is all square (cut, and flare) and it will seal up fine follow the instructions about how much tube to leave protruding when you make the flare though

will do some hunting then for that 'type' of kit

oh and just to note i would need an imperial kit for a corsair and mk1 cortina right?

I don't think the flaring bit is too sensitive to imperial/metric-ness, its mainly the fittings that make the difference on that front... Take your time and it will work out fine with one of those 'less expensive' kits, otherwise there is quite a jump to the "heavy Duty" kits *scurries off to find a link*

For example, the Sykes-Pickavant 270 series is a really good bit of kit that will last a lifetime (or more) - but it weighs in at nearly £140 for the basic kit which can only do one size: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330651824485And goes up to £230 for the full set: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190290312810

Be sure you make the right flares (single/double) but it's not hard after a bit of practice.

i use one like this: IMO its less fiddley than the other type and easier to use in situ. Search the bay for sealey AK5063 i got mine for £35 delivered. I've got the other type too and its doesn't get used at all any more.

ive got the old style sykes pickavant one that looks a bit like a G-clamp, and its beyond awesome. its the only one ive had that shrugs off stainless steel lines no problem, all others ive had/used feel iffy at best, or just break looking at it. a lot even struggle with steel lines tbh. you should be able to pick up the old type sykes one within your budget. they seem to fetch up to 75-80 on ebay, but thats a full kit with half a dozen sets of dies. i got mine for the grand total of erm, about nowt (well, swapped for a little favour/job)
