Quick one lads,
I've got MOT tomorrow..Am I right in thinking that reverse lights are NOT tested? Or am I being thick?
Cheers Dave

Unless it was in the changes this year.....reversers are not tested for operation...no jagged edges, etc though

theres alot of new rules for MOT's now, they might have added them into it, try a google search on new mot regs.

Reversing lamps aren't generally testable. I can think of only two occasions where they could be but neither is particularily likely.
1. If there on all the time and can't be switched off then you'd get a fail for white light showing to the rear
2. If the lenses are broken then you could be called up on sharp edges.
Both of those are non specific to reverse lights and there are no requirements specificly related to reversing lights in the manual.

I've never had a test failed for it. They're useful to have working though, had a number of near misses in car parks (cars and pedestrians) as people can't seem to judge a car coming towards them backwards.

The reverse switch has gone everything else is intact just couldnt be arsed to get under the car to change it this morning before MOT.
Passed and like we thought, there not tested.

my work van hasnt had reverse lights for the last two tests and passed, if you reverse without them just put your hazards on and be careful as people wont notice your trying to reverse

My Caddy van had its test yesterday, and i deliberately removed the reversing bulb for test as i have red tinting film on lights, so it shines pink. Passed like that for last two years. Unless vans are different. I know commercial vehicle don't need reversing light, not sure on cars, maybe same??

Haven't had reverse lamps on mine for nine years now - though i've always been under the impression that it's legal if they're not there, but have to work if they are there..? Seems that's not the case, as long as a non-working one doesn't cause an issue.
