On a bike you do tend to improve your riding....... it can get a bit terminal iif you don't ..... in a car you can survive with terrible technique and no road sense for years Gotta agree, I'm a long time bike rider and virtually as long time car driver, i have had some proper track instruction on both forms of transport and yes, we all have a hell of a lot to learn. BUT as you say, if you don't improve on a bike then you will hurt yourself or worse others, a lot of people seem to muddle by for years as really lousy car drivers.

The law in Queensland WAS ;you rode a 250 CC bike for 2 years then redid a test to see if you were capable of riding a bigger bike. The local Harley dealers decided not enough bikes were being sold quickly enough and in true Queensland fashion "arranged to have the legislation ammended" .So now you buy your harley,GSX,Z1500 etc and do a few days at a "learn to ride class" and you have a license. I live two doors from brisbanes busiest Bike shop and I see people who couldn't ride a bycycle lining up on saturdays to buy Mega bikes. They are put on bikes I wouldn't ride ,told they LOOK COOL, and sent on their way.The hospitals are full of Bike Victims. The Governemnt has mentioned in Parliament that the "situation is grave" no pun intended ,they said it!!and a inquiry into the spate of serious accidents and deaths of motorcyclists was being CONSIDERED.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

same sort of thing happens hear I know so many bikers that tell everybody they are the best rider around and every car driver is wrong.I like bikes but find the sport bike like the saxos of the bike world if I look at a bike it would have to be a bike like a custom or cruiser for me to have any interest in it . I used to ride bikes myself only small engined bike but its still riding a bike when I pased my car test I stopped riding bikes because my interests are in cars ,i have ridden a few bigger bikes but I realy don't see the thrill, i'm not putting down those that do it just a personal prefference thing same as i'm not putting down people who like hothaches with body kits and big stereos. but what I do hear so many times from bikers is that the car driver is in the wrong and in some cases that is correct but it not anywhere near as much as a pro biker would have everyone belive I used to work with a guy that was very much pro biker he had a suszuki sv1000 twin or what ever it was called he was always baosting about how fast this bike was and where he had be doing over 160's ect in it fine if thats what your into but what really used to annoy me is that if anything went wrong while he was doing his thing on his bike it was always down to a car driver he wrote off about 4 bike in the time I worked with him every time it was apparently a car drivers fault and he would come into work shouting at me because i'm into cars and not bikes . he would say things like you bloody car drivers nearly killed me last night and go on about he was going down such and such road and a car driver just pulled out on him what it boiled down to was that a car driver had looked down the road and the road WAS clear and once they had pulled out he was on top of them due to the speed he was going now I know we have these curse word adverts for people to look out for bikes more but if a bike is traveling down a road at the speeds these bikes are capable of there is not a car driver on the planet that could see and react in time let alone mr average car driver. when you try to explain this to a pro biker they will not see it they will tell you its down to the car drivers being bad and not the bikers . sorry for the rant but this is a subject I feel quite strongly about as I can see both sides to the argument yes I can see the skill side to riding a bike at speed but I also see the other side of it from rider that just want to lay the blame for thier poor riding skills at the car drivers when most of the time thats just not the case

Cars and bikes don't mix, it's like trying to operate a fine china store in an elephant enclosure.
Bikers are always complaining drivers don't see them, rather than complain they should take note and do something about it.

as a biker and a car driver.
Sometimes the biker is wrong, sometimes the car driver is wrong stop putting both these things in the hands of tossers and the problem will be solved.

I come from a biking family (Summer and Winter commuting/ riding). And we totally agree with everything said above by NightmaresRacing; also as stinkwheel said you have the to$$ers in both cars and bikes ... and ALL forms of transport which can be anything from a Rickshaw to a Tank.
