So a little while back I mentioned in a thread somewhere that Ford offered the Australian LTD in the UK, and that I'd never seen one. I knew I had a page in an old Ford range brochure that mentioned it but couldn't find it... Thanks to Stuyizz and his generosity though, I have a new copy ;D Click to get at a bigger version. Two things spring to mind: 1) Why would you bother when you could buy a UK-Spec Granada? Are they much bigger or anything? 2) They have a very odd rear door/wheelarch relationship Any pics of other LTDs would be cool ;D

"oh darling, shall we take the Roller, or this generic square box o' wibblepoo?" sorry i preffer the look of the ford to the roller and it probably rides as soft as the roller aswell ;D i think the aussie ltd had a few different models in that body style ie: falcon, peirmont ,ltd ect,, but don't quote me on that ;D they also had much better engine choice from staight 6 to 351ci V8 the uk granada was a little shorter and only had the 2.0ltr 4 pot and 2.3/2.8cologne or essex v6

Ford brochures of that era always have some odd things in them. Got another which shows Dorchester or similar Granadas being built.
I'm sure a few would have found their way here, sure I saw one at a banger race years ago - certainly difficult to tell from Granada MkII.
I assume it uses Granada doors, but they wanted longer wheelbase for greater legroom?
Ooh, just found a nice UK market Ford Imported Cars brochure from 1977, got Mustang II and Mercury Monarch Ghia from USA, and Fairmont saloon and estate from Oz. All have comedy added-by-hand number plates, even though some pic's do appear to be in UK. All have 4.9-litre V8. Take a pic shortly.....

The landau is based on the XA/B/C falcon coupe..... kind of a luxury version. I'd give my left hand for one, they didn't make a great deal of them...... and "one " of them was in mad max !!

Somewhere in a box in my loft is a photo of me, aged about 8, next to an LTD similar to this one: Only it was a four door, and blue. A family relative was married to a USAF Pilot and was stationed over here for a while, and that's what he had when they came to visit. I was the coolest kid in school when they picked me up at hometime in it ;D

So they are effectively a Granada are they? I never really drew the parallel, although they do have a similar look to them. I was always of the thought they are measureably bigger, but owning to the rarity of Granada's of any ilk over here I've never had the opportunity to compare.
They're a behemoth of a car really, very wide, and fairly long, as the initial one pictured was a development of the XD Falcon/Fairmont platform, basically stretched. LTD and Fairlane variants were usually pitched at diplomatic type transport and so on.
The chap across the road from me has an XE Fairmont wagon, effectively the same shape, but with a facelifted front end, it is simply HUGE.

OK chaps, just to make sure theres no confusion, the red car DarrenW posted is a USA Ford LTD and is in no way related to the Aussie ones, its about twice the size, big block powered, and derived from the Galaxie range in the 1960s.
The silvery colour car in the brochuree shot with the Rolls Royce is also a yank and its a LTD CROWN Victoria, later just called CROWN Victoria, whis is still in production and holds the dubious honor of being the last volume passenger car to be built on a separate chassis!
The aussie LTD are very nice, I've seen a few Fairmonts over here too.
Again, don't confuse the aussie Fairmont with the yank one as they are completely different cars.

Its why Ford have the police market pretty much sewn up since the mid 1990s. Cops like big RWD full chassis cars. Can you say "ram him off the road!!!") Although some agencies have been using the wImpala for a few years. The Dodge RWD cars are expected to be big sellers in this market.
