I've got a little kit I'm putting together for the summer and is like to go with the ww2 bomber theme with rows or rivets at the joints of panels . With bullet hole repairs etc
But I'm thinking they may not like it at the mot station ..

Knew someone who riveted a sill on a car was right chuffed with the result until it failled the Mot!!! Problem is the panels slide against each other and cut the rivet. So long as you don't add them to a structual joint on the car it should be ok

I have rivets all over my daily and it sailed through the mot - BUT they are not structural, just for looks.

Lots of kit cars have their bodywork riveted together. As Rob says, as long as it's not a structural panel, it's fine.

I bloody hope so! its all down to where and how really. plus the type of rivet and the base material too. for example, a model A ford chassis is only held together by rivets- but they're 1/4" steel hot clouts. a plate pop-rivetted plate over a hole in a chassis rail on the other hand......... technically any repair rivetted to a welded steel monocoque would be a fail, but if its a seperate chassis car the body could be entirely rivetted together and not matter at all. it all depends on what it is your doing really.

If it is only the look you are after, why not cut the heads off the rivets and stick them on. That way they are not structural and you can put them right on the join of the panels where required. I know of a few cars that have done them that way Cheers, Stu.
