Morning Everyone!
My car-mad 14 year old brother and two of his friends are going to their first school prom on 12 July at about 7 o’clock. As my Citroen AX isn’t really going to cut it in the coolness stakes, I was hoping that someone on here (in exchange for beer tokens/charity donation) might have something to transport them from the house to the school, a distance of 1 mile approx.
I was thinking something large and American would probably do it but anything cool will do.
He is located in Leicester, specifically Groby. Is there anyone out there in the East Midlands area who can help?
Thanks in advance,
Steve.

You will really struggle with something like this, because technically it's private hire and all sorts of insurance messiness would ensue.

Even if I donated to charity and didn't pay the individual?

I think so, only quoting from when I've seen this asked on here before though.

I've done it before, no monies involved just for fun. It was a NORLOG lotus run a few years back with stop off at a prom to deliver some passengers. We had a couple of helpers assisting with 'dis-embarking' as there is no graceful way out of a tiny plastic car! Just do it as a favour to a mate, no problems. The guy who requested/organised it had a BBQ and we ate well instead ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Most classic insurance policies allow you to do "up to 3 weddings or similar events" per year. I've seen the wording in the policy when I was with Footman James I'm fairly sure.
Read your policy docs and if in any doubt phone and ask.

If I asked a mate to give me a lift I would be insured. As long as there is no hire or reward I don't really see a problem. Whether it's a good idea to ask a stranger to take your kids to a prom - I don't know about that. I'd like to say it's not a problem, and it really shouldn't be, but you never know..../daily mail Our run was all guys who knew each other reasonably well, we left in convoy and arrived in convoy 15 brightly coloured, noisy and variously overheating plastic cars causes more of a stir than a pink hummer ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

You know what, my dad has a 68 Dodge charger R/T that I'm trying to borrow for a mates wedding on the 9th providing I can arrange insuring it, so if that does go ahead I won’t need much convincing to get behind the wheel later in the week. It is a seriously cool car ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Also I'm going away to Europe on the 14th for a road trip in my 1985 Mercedes w123 limo which has prom car written all over it Considering i only live a few miles outside of Leicester I’m giving this a bit of thought. The only thing is I have a feeling I may be a bit too busy considering how close it is to our trip. Ill give you a PM if I think that I can commit to anything and give you a few pic of the cars ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

That would be both awesome and perfect! The Merc would be cool too. Please let me know if its possible ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Don't worry about that, I don't think a stranger is going to do much to three largeish, rugby playing, 14 year old boys. I shall follow in the non-retro if it's an issue. I bet that convoy looked great pulling up at a school. ;D

Certainly blocked the road! Had to pull over and let my Elise cool after delivery before leaving... It didn't like the 20 min queue of tacky limos, stretched hummers and plebmobiles! Funniest was the car infront, a exige (fixed roof) with the biggest lass (>6'2") in a huge dress had chosen... Her 'extraction' was not graceful in the slightest as two 'helpers' ejected her with some gusto

I was going to tentatively offer my Vitesse, until I read the bit about 3 burly rugby players. They'd never get in, let alone get out with style!

The 14 year old me would have thought that the most awesome combination of prom transport and chauffeur in the world. Ever.

The 14 year old me would have thought that the most awesome combination of prom transport and chauffeur in the world. Ever. I'm inclined to agree. I'm worried about spontaneous combustion. ;D Kind offer though - Thanks Violet! I'd say tall rather than burly (but then at 5'8" most 14 year olds are taller than me ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ). Tacky limos, stretched hummer and plebmobiles is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Most vehicles on here are far cooler and memorable.

Both of those are very cool. Anything where the engine is too big to stay under the bonnet gets me salivating! Also worth mentioning that I can offer a skills trade in exchange for this. I'm an engineer with my own tools so have a fair idea of my way round a car. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Nope, no rewards remember ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) It'll be done as a mate helping a mate, no reward or expectation of reward or you *could* run into insurance problems.
