The starter motor on my DAF does not appear to be working.
On the bench test. I connected the starter direct to the battery with a jump lead (replicating the connection under the bonnet) and connected the frame of the motor (it earths through the frame) to the negative terminal of the battery. I then used a flying live wire and touched it to the small spade terminal on the solonoid. This caused the gear of the starter to spring forward as it should to engage the flywheel. But the motor did not turn.
I believe from that test I can conclude that the solonoid is ok. After stripping down the motor I cant see any signs of burning on the commutator ring nor can I see any obvious break in the armature coils. + The brushes are both in good order.
Does anyone know a way to test the armature to find where the fault lies.

p.s. the starter is 6V so it isn't all that easy to just get another.
