already found, and in a garage...
phonecall on tues, returned today, went to see a man who was offering me a Skoda, rapid or estelle, my choice due to ad i had placed. he didnt remember me but he's the smae man i got my first 6 6-spoke wheels off, and i got mixi a 120 resto project off, same man that quoted £150 for an engine if he could find a going one (says he has 50 odd)...
so nobody's ever seen this secret stash of his, he was a self titled freelance skoda technician that went around dealerships fixing RWDs and has bought up examples, says he's sold maybe 1000 of them, more than the dealerships  i have asked to see his cars that he treats as a retirement fund (some shock awaits) so this chance i jumped at even though i KNOW he will ask a fortune... (turned down £1k on black rapid, £500 on faded red rapid...)
nothing here has an MOT btw
i still don't like him, even though i like everyone that owns and likes skodas; he's quite stout, wearing today a red t-shirt over baggy grey sweatpants, little moustache, knows everything about skodas and all sorts of cars and has the only good ones left in the country apart from some fellow in antrim, and some 'weird german guy' in 'the town' (belfast) (my best friend, estelle, yugo, warti, lada )...
so, to the goodies...
i was first at his house 4 years ago. the rapid was here. altho its perfect mechanically, really is clean underneath; flanked by an unmoved early felicia estate, and he drives a (apparently) rebuilt underneath fav flairline estate in light blue.
as concerns favorits...
he considers them 'sh1te' 'they don't handle' 'yours is the later one is it?' 'bet it is pathetically slow' no actually, i say, its really fast, i find the favorit outhandles pretty much everything on the road and i've driven many cars 'oh well ive driven hundreds of cars and they're curse word, who ever thought of FWD?' 'bet yours cant do this' revs hard through 3rd, snaps into 4th, snaps into 5th, showing me the potency of the cat-off carb-on fav engine... and i ask, what difference is there? 'ah well she's got a full tank' 'hasnt warmed up yet' he was doing no more than cutting the stuffing out of the 'box while slanging the cat versions, saying theyve no peak power and its all spread out thinly (ie it has torque you tool) lol he's a non-expert on favs to say the least lol
in his favour:
here we have at the front a 130gl with powdercoated white alloys, i asked were those gl seats, he had no idea what i was on about, then i checked the badges, its a GL!
and a 105lux on steeles and no vinyl!
then there was a black rapid, wow i said, like an extra £500 cost price 'yeah thats about right, £500' lol nice anyway... everything here has sat untouched for around 10yrs with about 20k each or less
underneath this is a unfloor storage room with no light, and panels galore, wings, lids, bonnets, doors, valances, some favorit stuff too, couldnt see a thing...
and at the back is the 2nd '130' as he calls them. he wants 1 rapid, 1 105 and 130, so will ideally let this one go, the other with the white wheels is his 'girlfriends' anyway, i wasnt too keen until a good look revealed a standard rapid dash and black stripey seats in tiptop condition... that means rare GL spec again...
oh and 2 garages up his brother in law in 2pac'ing a black rapid -40mm, i think i'd get on with him better too...
comments if you will!
(ps he mentioned one of only 2 special works estelles was in a place local, anyone ever heard of any last remaining lr's or the type in ireland? oh and a farmer has a 110r too, apparently...)
