fireforce 1 went up in flames at flame and thunder today. me and a mate were just leaving and turned round to watch it go by and it just ignited. apparently there was sparks at the start line and he deployed the chute pretty quick then it just went up. the driver was fine and was allowed to see his family after about 15 minutes. pretty scary to watch though! sorry about the picture quality

Mr CapucchinoCruiser called me to tell me earlier, as he is there over the weekend. It sucks big style, but at least no one was hurt.

the name tony baker rings a bell so it could have been.
I'm surprised he was fine. he was in it for quite a while and it was just a giant fireball. I turned to look at it just before it went up and thought I was watching someone being cooked. couldnt really see much though so i never saw him get out.

is this the 'jet car' at the Pod then? I think that one's FireForce 2. There's actually 3 FireForces (or was, anyway) - 1 is pink n yellow, 2 is blue and 3 is yellow. Goodbye, FF1 - gone but will never be forgotten.

Eeekz
The drivers are quite safe even when completely on fire. I had a drag race video (tape) when I was a kid and it showed how the firesuits can hold the fire out and how the onboard fire extinguisher system works. This was from the 70's-80's so with a touch of material technology those drivers are safer than ever. Obviously the sooner they are out the better but the old firesuits could take a couple of minutes of fire before it got through.

its not just the fire that kills u tho is it, if the fire takes all the oxegen out of the air then u cant breath, which is why i think they have to get out asap

When we were running F3 cars with Halon extiguishers, we ran oxygen bottles for the drivers too, connected to the helmet When you set off the extinguisher the oxygen bottle was triggered as well Halon is excellent and it will actually put out a fire unlike AFF which is only really designed as a fire suppressant to give you time to get out before it really gets hold ;D Halon does suck all the oxygen out of the air though so not the nicest thing to have go off if you are still in there Save your life though ;D

Man thats shocking I guess its testement to to the skill and profesionalism of everyone involved that a man can sit next to an exploding jet engine and walk away without a scratch.

well rather than dilly dallying i went to the website, your absolutly right there are three cars, but 2 and 3 appear to be identical! I remember seeing one of the three on the start line at La Pod blowing a fuel hose, the pumps must be massive as the tank was empty in seconds! They had to scrape all the rubber off the start line right down to the concrete as the diesel type fuel they run on ruined the track J
