Quick q. really? What would be an acceptable measurement tolerance/difference say side to side when measuring a body?
In my case, got a slight wheelbase (center to center) difference on a mini. I know this is not the ideal datum, so am going to measure from heelboard/rear sill end, to the b post, a post, front sill end, and front wheel center.
But, assuming a difference between left and right, would be an acceptable margin? If there is an acceptable margin of course....

Anything within an inch from what I've found. Aslong as all the wheels point in the same direction it'll be fine.

Curious really, car in question drives fine (mini).
Had a front end bump which i think pushed the inner r/h wing back slightly. Put a small crease in the floor too by the subframe mount.
Odd really as door gaps are pretty similar. Front r/h wheel is bout 20mm further back center to center than the l/h.
I do know that wheelbase is pretty unreliable on minis as the rear subby can often twist on its mounts, extra material on the heelboard from a repair is a classic example of making one side "longer" than the other...

Isn't there a Peugot built with a staggered wheelbase from new? 106? Something to do with torsion bars IIRC As said above, alignment is more critical than distance

don't recall Peugeots, but a lot of 70s Renaults had staggered wheelbases.

think it's quite common to see a mini crabbing along, whether it get as bad as leaving 4 tracks in the snow

Matching wheelbase is not as critical as you may think, its constantly changing as you drive the car anyway. Most old leaf sprung rear end cars can have one back wheel a couple of inches out when cornering and factory tolerances were often 1" either way.

Well had a good old measure tonight and worse than i thought...
Front crossmember, l/h inner wing, toeboard, have all been pushed back about 25/27mm on the l/h side.
Seems impact force hit the a-post and was stopped by the doors so just folded up everywhere. Even the lower dash rail is cracked where it meets the a-post...
Got loads of stress marks and creases all over the shop so feel its beyond my skills to save....no matter, il move it all across onto my solid 89 shell instead. Have got someone who is gonna take the damaged shell anyway so not going to the crusher just yet.
Thanks for all the comments people, helped me to make an accurate assessment.

think it's quite common to see a mini crabbing along, whether it get as bad as leaving 4 tracks in the snow Minis always look like they are crabbing if you not exactly in front or behind them because they are narrower at the back than they are at the front.
