Ahhhh, I'd understood from the title that it was to be called the MGB. If not, then I'll wind my neck in a bit as it would seem it's an 'unofficial label' that's been given to it! Although I still can't view an SUV as a 'sportscar'. They just don't fit the image in my view! Unless of course you're talking about that Juke GTR or a Merc G63

I see plenty of references to the original BGT. I just think the references are skinned over the wrong body shape. Seems a shame to waste the MGB name on it though? There really is no need, I'd be saving that for an actual GT car. The tail lights are a great evolution of the slightly fin like tails of the original.

My first reaction was - yurgh! But I found the drawings interesting. It must be so difficult to design something new these days, and taste in car design has obviously changed over the years.
I still prefer the classics - and the original MGB was in my opiniion, the prettiest car in the world.

Looks like its got an mgb inspired grill, but thats about it imo. From memory it looks more like the original Rover intentions of the new Mini before BMW got their hands on it. I'm glad MG are doing well in the BTCC at the moment (tho plato needs to bring himself down a peg or two), as the old saying goes, win on sunday, sell on monday. The MG saloon looks nice but it hardly looks like an MG, look at the old ZT, it looks like an MG, it has the right 'face'.

I'll be in the minority then... I think it looks quite good! I like the modern take on classic styling cues, and its much better and less boring than so many of the cars on sale today!
(PS no I don't work for MG...)

I assume they won't be calling it "B"? It's just a jacked up MPV with an MG badge right?
It's not an MG in any sense that we can understand, but how controversial was it to badge up an Austin Maestro or Metro rather than design a replacement for the B?

To me trhat puts a whole new slant on it, ok i still wouldn't buy one but as it's not trying to play on a name to make sales it sits better with me (slightly). I still enjoyed the wee negativity escape, it was refreshing to not have to go to pistonheads to get it ;D I still think it looks like a bini derivative to me slightly less ugly than the offroad attemep BMW made IMHO

This thread has just led me to pictures of the MG3 concept. If the released model looks much like that, I'm in danger of buying a new car.

I quite like it, it's bold and new not boring, it's not copying VW like most do and it was done in the UK, but we are the worlds best at GB bashing. Hope it does come over here even in kit form it will create jobs and a new interest in MG after all BL left MG to have a long slow death to consentrate on Triumph and then gave up on that too.

On the subject of old names and styling cues on modern concepts...how about a Skoda Rapid Coupe: The upward sweep at the base of the rear window is 'old' Rapid, the rear lights are a current Skoda trademark. I like it.

^^^ Is that Rapid an actual prototype? It is quite a nice shape, and I can see why they'd do it (especially in a tuned-up GT flavour) but to me, the shape & styling of the original Rapid was less than half the appeal of it. If VAG did a rear-engined, RWD version of the above, then I promise I'd never say anything remotely negative about them ever again. ;D

Hats off to them I say. At least it gets people talking, unlike some * of the bland creations offered by many of the big car names at the moment... * Disclaimer - I like some of the current cars currently on offer, but dislike the majority!
