Seriously... Maybe I was too naive to burst out in excitement think "oh they make it again!" MGB now a SUV!? Whoa... I can see where the design's comeing from, though.

I just did a little bit of sick in my mouth. Sorry, but it looks like Leepu designed that on the workshop floor! Maybe I'm just a sentimental old fart, but I fail to see how the MGB could've (should've) grown into that. Have some 'modernised' MGB's instead

looks like a mini that has been fed steroids! The idea of a modern day mgb is probably not a bad idea, but to make it an suv seems a bit odd

For the Chinese market, an SUV is the best possible idea. That's what people want to buy.

I'm definitely not going to buy one, but it's probably what sports car buyers of the 60s and 70s would buy today (a 'lifestyle' car that helps them stand out as 'sporty'). They've managed to get a surprisingly large amount of original MGB styling cues into a car that isn't anything like one. Bearing in mind the lack of family resemblance in the current line up (MG6 Magnette below) the new MGB is a massive step in the right direction. Also, if I were in the market for a trendy slightly-retro MPV type thing (which I'm not!) then I might choose the MGB over a Mini Countryman, Juke, Rav 4 or Qashqai.

I'd definitely get the Juke. It looks so crazy, it's got future-retro written all over it!

See, with moderns you don't compare them to any old car which may have the same name. After all the Dodge Charger now has 4 doors for a start...
Compare that to what the alternatives are in the current market. It'll be up against the Mini and a bunch of other sports crossover vehicles,
I kinda like bits of it, I'm now sure if its just the rendering or if some of the material finishes are a bit Ripspeed looking if you know what I mean. how well it will all work together i reserve judgment until I see one in the flesh.
But I won't be buying one for like 20+ years anyway ;-)

See, with moderns you don't compare them to any old car which may have the same name. After all the Dodge Charger now has 4 doors for a start... But......... the new Charger does resemble the original and shares a few styling cues. It does look like a modern progression from the old 'muscle car' styling of old. (well, it does to me anyways) Same with the Mustang. Even the first of the BMW Mini's looked like the original (not even gonna start on the countryman!!) I understand the point your making, but not the best example to illustrate it, as I think the Dodge and Ford cars are a reasonable homage to the styles of old. The MG above shares very little with a 'B'. I'm struggling to see any reference at all tbh. If they'd called it something else then it would sit a lot better. I do see the market place for it, and amongst it's peers it'll look quite reasonable, but, it is not a sports car and that's what the MGB was/is. The use of the name 'Magnette' on the other hand doea have some relevance, as the original Magnette was a larger well appointed saloon car and whilst the new one bears no physical similarites, it does share the same purpose at least edited for duff keyboard errors

It's not called the MGB though, it's the MG Icon. As Rmad says, compact SUVs are definitely the new sportscars. It makes sense, because you're not allowed to drive fast on the roads anymore, but you can pretend that you might drive offroad one day! In Australia compact SUVs are about 25% of the new car market, which is just crazy for a type of vehicle which I don't consider to have any meaningful purpose. All they really are is a hatchback wearing platform shoes, they're not designed for off-road work at all.
