That truly sucks . I thought there was a 10% discrepency on speed cameras too, to allow for speedo inaccuracy. Dunno what the hard facts are though. You could always ask to see a calibration certificate for that equipment. If it wasn't calibrated that morning, apparently it won't stand up in court. Again, check the facts on this though. And it would mean you going to court... It'd cost the f*ckers more than £60 though ;D Interestingly in the blurb it makes out that they don't need no stinking calibration certificate...

Hmm. Tony's Gestapo must have changed the rules then. When I got mine, I fully intended to tick the "Go to court" option, just to be obstructive. I bottled it in the end because I could barely afford the £60 at the time, and the fine automatically doubles when you go to court. If I had the money I would have though, to get my £120 worth out of the f*ckers. It's that old chestnut: if everyone contested speeding fines, the court system would be overloaded. But saying is one thing and doing is another...

I was gonna start a thread called 'Is the game up?' regarding all this big brother speed trap $h1t. So is it? only solution i can come up with (apert from being a saint!!! ) is to build a small (i mean real small) shonky nippy car that feels fast at 25MPH. And I am serious!

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

...or break the law, which is becoming easier and easier to do these days. It won't be long before they take a DNA sample from every speeding motorist to load into their National Identity Database (and sell it to private pharmaceutical companies, etc...)

I'm worried ive got done by 2 of those sodding camera vans, one in a 30zone where i was the only car on the bloody stretch of road and my intermittentsodding speedo was on the fritz so i guestimated. and it felt like a crawl. but later on when i had a confirmed 30. the revs didnt colerate too well.. so sod it.
and then again on a 60 stretch. i think i was over again:(

My father-in-laws boss went from having a clean license to being banned in one day...
He started a new job (building industry) where he'd never been before, and one of the villages he had to drive through had a speed camera (30mph zone) one on the way in to the village from both directions.
To cut a long story short - he was on the job for 3 weeks and got zapped by each camera twice everyday...a total of 90 points and £1800...lmfao (this was about 10 years ago, so the rules have probably changed now) - let's just say he's not the sharpest tool in the box.

The problem with Gatso/Truvelo units and (more so) mobile units is that people spend more time looking down at the speedometer to avoid a fine/points than they do looking where they are going. Or randomnly stamp on the brakes when they see one ... both of which, quite frankly, make the whole issue of 'cameras for safety' a little bit of a joke. Most cameras really arent necessary. Outside schools or hospitals, fine. Otherwise, they really are of little use other than to fleece Jonny Motorist of his hard earned pounds. As with most policing these days, the authorities consider cameras a viable alternative to real police officers. Which is, of course, total horsesh*t. A traffic officer can use common sense and discretion, whereas a camera is totally automated and cannot tell the difference between a car doing 50 in a 40 zone in rush hour and a car doing 50 in a 40 zone at 4am. Of the 5 cameras in the Portsmouth area, I would consider 4 to be pure revenue earners, with no real safety benefit whatsoever.

I disagree with so much of the nannying with regards to speed. But, you know the rules, so drive within them. I enjoy a good blast like everyone else, but have managed to keep my licence clean for 20 years. Makes you sick doesn't it ;D
It galls me enormously that speed cameras can only detect speed, whereas a traffic policeman can spot so many other far more dangerous things. Bring them back I say.

Thats the fugging kiddy..... Anyone read the guardian today? Everyone's NHS records being uploaded onto a massive govt database, to which assorted (currently undesignated) public and private bodies will have 'regulated' access. Of course, the individual has no say in this and has no right to complain or stipulate what 'the state' can or can't do with its medical information. Makes me wanna cry.

I disagree with so much of the nannying with regards to speed. But, you know the rules, so drive within them. So when, in 20-30 years, they announce they will be putting cameras in every home, will you simply behave differently in your own home ? After all the cameras are there, you know the rules, so will you just 'accept them' and act within them ? Just because something is a 'rule' set out by government, it doesnt follow thats its fair/just. Simply going along with any old law/rule they trot out gives them free reign to continue subjecting us to these bullsh*t rules. The simple fact is, the apathy of the UK population and their willingness to just 'make the best of it' will be its downfall ... this country is already halfway to 1984.
