So tucked away in a barn somewhere I have one of these... It has the ugliest wheels ever known to mankind IMHO. Id like something cooler and dishier, but cant bring myself to pay a fortune for some BBS's or Image's. Now Ive been thinking why not steelies? Properly widened and either matt silver or grey might look awesome. Whaddya all think? Win or Fail? Also what came with good looking steelies in 4x100 pcd and 16" diameter?

Yeah that could work.
Alsorts came in 4x100, VW obvs, also some Honda, some vauxhall, new mini. The mini steels look quite nice.

4x100 and 16'' would be either some vauxhall steels which are like hens teeth as are the bmw mini steels in 16''. Renault steels are much easier to come by and cheap too but have a high offset et48. Used as spares on meganes and the likes so the majority have never seen the road I had a set of renault steels on my caddy

Thanks, i'll get it on the road one day!
The turbines are too bland IMHO, especially on an all black car.
I'm trying to imagine those steelies banded out to 8.5 et20 ish...

When you sell the turbines be sure to stick them up on VW forums as they'll fetch you good money without tires fitted !
I've seen sets advertised around the £600 mark
Personally think they are one of the coolest OEM wheels ever.
On the Steely front
The last generation Fiat Bravo was fitted with 16x7 steels with a mid 30offset
4x98 rather than 4x100 but wobble bolts'll solve that.
The Alpine turbines are very light wheels, I think you'll notice the extra constant mass of steel wheels. Some people may like the heavy feel personally I prefer the lightest wheels possible all day long

Check out availability or rear tyres in a suitable size in 16" before you commit. 17" for the wide rear may be a better option

What are wobble bolts? I've heard of them but never seen one!
On the rear I'm looking for a 245 x 45 x16. I don't want to go p to 17 s as the profile will be so low that the ride and handling will be affected.

E30 Beemers were 4x100, lots of 90's wheels available in their size with appropriate RWD offsets.

I've got Rovers.
