I've suffered VSR in a car I should have used additive with but never been in contact with a tiger. I'll save the link for the next time I visit Longleat though

I never bother with additives, If there was a later version of the engine that is unleaded, I pick a head up when they are cheap, which is what I did with the retro metro, and Austin A40, otherwise I just wait until its giving problems and then have the head converted, it might cost a bit to have the inserts fitted, but if you do the donkey work yourself, it's cheaper than getting someone just to change the valve stem seals, and you can do a little porting whilst your there

I've suffered VSR in a car I should have used additive with but never been in contact with a tiger. I'll save the link for the next time I visit Longleat though I have tiger repelant underpants (TBH they repel everything including women) I have sufferd it quite a few times so the sticking the head in the sand and hoping it wont happen isn't really the best advice IMHO Like i said IME how and where you drive makes a lot of differance, the MG i just rebuilt lost 2 vavle seats in under 3000 miles but that was on long trips to france, my pinto transit lost 3 heads in just over 30K but again long motorway trips and i've had quite a few other customer cars in with VSR, usually down to having listened to advice about how it would never happen to then cos a mate has got away with it, i've even done a few zetecs with lost valve seats (fell out and or burnt out) through LPG use, simple FACT is it "can" happen so being an ex boyscout i like to be prepaired, thats why i have a spare head some matches and a spre woggle in me garage, you never know (especialy when you may need a new woggle ! ) Personly i would get a 2nd head have it cleaned and sorted then wait for poor idle, vavle gaps closing and then lob it on, you might get lucky ? or you might get stuck miles away from home with only 2 or 3 cylinders working? Being a mechanic i find it best to give the worst case scenario and let the customer decide, that way i don't get the blame when the worst happens, of course they totaly forget when the best happens and i predicted it, then it's just luck
