Not a debate on the evils of road tax, Was simply thinking if the rules had not been frozen in 1997 (athough some ads on ebay seem to think it alplies) what cool stuff could you get a free tax disc for. 25 years ago would be 1987 so lots of classic metal will start the ball rolling all escort mk2 's (that would not help prices) lots of hot hatch all of these early ones of these stuff that was once comman place might be a more regular sight

So one Monza wasn't enough to illustrate the point? Haha I think we may well see a lot more British Leyland and Austin Rover stuff around. Or maybe people would've just crushed them anyway. I would love to see the rolling 25 year exemption, my next planned purchase is nearly 25 years old

I do wonder about the 924s and their values. 944s were quite cheap for a while as were 914s although recently the '14s seemed to have risen. Anyway, photo time : Porsche 944 Turbo 220: Capri 280 Brooklands/2.8i (let's just make it all late Cappas!): Late Minis but more do seem to become tax exempt I notice LOL: Triumph Dolomite Sprint: MGB GT V8:

I have both these on the local Classic/Historic permit scheme for limited usage, It would be hard to justify/afford otherwise with normal road registration including the cost of 365 days 3rd party medical insurance. Early versions of my Integra are now old enough to qualify too at 25; but mines another 2 years off. I can't justify putting it on the road at the moment. Have to buy before they get too rare to find replacement parts.

Mk2 Golf would be tax exempt. Wow, that's pretty scary that the earliest ones are 28 years old.. Hell, let's have another: Still lurrrve big bumpers on mk2's - I'm definitely stuck in the 90's!

My 190 would qualify, being 28 years young this year! Unfortunately 12 months rent costs more than my insurance!
