"as an aside, the DVLA being "flummoxed" made me chuckle to myself, they we're "flummoxed" by re-registering my old Volvo under it's own original number plate. I'm surprised this case of brand-new-but-actually-really-old-and-has-never-even-had-a-number-plate didn't make the entire department simply implode in a confused incompetent mess. this in no way intended to be a 'whinge', just made me giggle a bit :-D"
i'm sure they are busy looking for a fine they can slap it asap! nice car,I'm sure someone will take it in

gails site is wrong its an 81 2.0 GL it was stored in sheffield with the rest of TC "cuth" harrisons collection they used to keep one of most fords , cuth was a works driver in the days of the mk2 zephyr (a replica of one of his cars was built in the late 80's that they ran in classic events) amongst there collection was a gen 427 cobra (rhd) that reg passed the cutlers i worked at back then (they supplied our company vehicles) another was a GT40 (i think ex lemans). i photographed the cortina in thier london rd showroom in the late 90's when one of the salesmen told me about it & some of the other cars in the collection as varied as a 105E through mk1 fiesta, he said they were mostly mid range models that represented the popular customer choice of the day most where unreg'd.

One of TC's ex cars used to be in a ford showroom in cheshunt, a blue 100E, also unreged I beleive (had no plates and the salesman told it had never been reg'd and it was on loan from "up north") but it was back before i'd heard of that cortina ao never really botherd to ask any further, the dealership is now a block of flats so cant ask now

There are still a few rust free ones about, when the fire burnt all the paint off mine it became apparent it had never been repaired and was grot free.

I must admit IVA crossed my mind too. But as already said, Type Approval should cover it: it's just it took a realllllllly long time before it got registered.
It goes to show the differing attitudes of various forums. On a local forum frequented mostly by the Civic / Impreza / Focus RS crowd, one poster reckoned some 'Ford beard' would have it.

Suprised a few of those types in my 24v one, Focus RS had to resort to blocking me to stop me beating him off the lights once.

wonder if there is there a record for time elapsed between date of manufacture and date of first registration? The Cortina seems to fit the bill ...so far
