Colour: White or yellow on this link www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/contents/madebut the issue is that afew of my friends have been pulled over that last few weeks saying that mr plod has made them remove the laminx. and on talking to my god friend mr MOT, and he said as on the 1st of april they are now a MOT fail (infomation dropped in passing not 100% sure on details) so i was wondering as ive been running yellow head lights for years and I'm worried about not being able to run them no more!! please get back to me adam. picture for the troubles!! ![](http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss9/RetroHomeSlice/269d929d.jpg)

Hi, not sure what laminx is, is it a coating or a cover?
The lighting regs clearly show you can have white or yellow,
'but' they also say after 1986 the lights should have type approval marks its possible you could argue that if the lights were type approved 'white' and you change them to yellow they no longer comply with the approval mark.
like alot of things, its proportionate like blue tinted lights and hid's look lights. if your cars generally ok I'm sure the police wouldn't really bother but it may draw attention and cause them to take a deeper look.
Sorry, not sure about the mot issue

That cannot be an MOT fail on a car used before 1986, can it?

Laminx is the MOT fail. You are altering the light output of the lense.
Buy the E marked yellow lights and install them, and they shouldn't fail.
** This is my interpretation of the MOT book **

I always believed that any variation of white to yellow to amber was ok for a headlight or sidelight?
Amber sidelight and running light bulbs, and often plus yellow headlight and/or foglight bulbs have always been a little fave mod of mine. Had a few cops ask about them, but were too puzzled to actually do anything about them!

Don't forget this also means Fly eyes and other such headlight treatments wil fail MOT, likewise anything that has been added to lights , from memory I think it is any light NOT just headlights.

It should be those HID that get banned, never been blinded by yellow headlights! They are illegal on most applications already

i've had flyeyes pass an mot, it says in the tester book (last time i looked so whether its changed) that only if somthing added to the headlights effects the beam pattern that it was an issue.
i'm suprised the flyeyes i had passed, they where as dark as anything, so much so i actially used it at night once and they where completely hopeless, if i'd really driven at night they would have had to come off
