I've always thought starter motors work normally right up until they seize or die completely? Half the time when I try and start the 'Scrote, it acts like the battery's almost flat, the starter really labours slowly to turn the engine over. But then I can wait 2 secs, try again and it spins nicely and fires up. Is it likely to be a 'sticky' motor, or bad connections maybe? I can't imagine the battery's at fault, seems to be holding charge OK. By way of thanks, have a picture, of a thing:

I'd be inclined to check the engine earth strap first. Remove it and clean both ends where it bolts to the chassis and the engine block. Also look at the earth lead on the battery and where that bolts to the vehicle frame. Check the condition of the positive cables as well.
