I thought I might pop this in here aswell.... will delete it if you don't want it here Dom!
I'm looking for a petrol vapour separater off a 1985-89 Polo 1.05 (HZ engine) with a Pierburg carb. Its a funny plastic thing that looks like a swirl pot next to the carb. Mines cracked and bodged at the moment but being fuel related I'd rather have a solid one!
Sorry for the thread invasion!

You might just have to bite the bullet with the calipers Russ, I always have (they're the same across the Dolly range, anyway .....second hand ones are always gummed solid, or have scored bores. Even on the 1850 and the 1500, when I got the pistons out of em they were so damaged new was the only option Think mine were (ouch) ~120 for the pair recon from Quiller. Are the bonnet retaining bolts not just some 3/8ths affair?

Yea, on every single one of mine I've changed to Aeroquip braided hoses - for a slightly sharper pedal and because the old lines tend to balloon, or are of an unknown quantity I would have reconn'd them but the bodies and pistons haven't been salvagable once I'd blown them out. You can get new pistons and seals but....I'm just not going to skimp on what is already a not overly powerful braking system, I need to put faith in it so I only use stuff I trust If you could get the pistons out OK mind, and they were free from corrosion/scores as were the bores, you might be OK with some fresh seals and a jolly good clean ;D

Sorry to take this even further of the original topic. Russell, is it not worth while trying to fit a set of callipers from something else if you are planning on getting more power from the engine?

'Bout the only suitable alternative is the Sierra upgrade - you need a set of non-ABS calipers, a spacer/adaptor made up and a gentle bit of grinding. Works excellently and a lot of track dayer's use em with no issues whatsover.
