Has anyone got info as to where I could get them or even what material they used back in the day on capris etc

I once had a black mk3 Granada that was "murdered" out and I bought a set of Lens protectors from Ford than cut the sides off over the indicators and sprayed them black on the inside and fitted them during the day, only the main dealers did them tho. It depends on the age of your car, you might be able to pick them up if its a later version, or possibly make some yourself with perspex if it an earlier one with square lights, mk1,2,3 etc. There is a product called "fly eyes" iirc which give a similar look, there was a thread on here a while back
