OK, so pic pinched from ebay cos I haven't taken any yet. Cheers Pandaselecta. The car is a 1994 Renault 5 Campus Prima. Built in Slovenia yet seems to have avoided the worst of the window grot that these run out models seem to suffer from. 45K on the clock and drives like it to. Sips fuel, cheaper on insurance than my last car (mk 4 golf. for sale at £160 to save it from the scrappers if anyone is interested). Current plans are to colour the bumpers & trims black, fit white indicators and repeaters. Do something with the rear light clusters (not sure what yet) find some slightly wider steel wheels (Clio?). Give it a tickle with the stick then retrim the interior. The idea is to make the car as black and white as possible. I can't do anything about the rear numberplate, but other than that I don't want any colour on the car that isn't black or white. A few years ago there were white light clusters for Renault 5s on the bay of E but I can't find them any more. Any suggestions?

Drove to work today, no problems.
On the way home, it came on to rain. Flipped on the wipers, zip, nada, zero. Limped into asda car park & checked all the fuses that had a vaguely windscreen wiperish picture by them. They were all good.
Waited for the rain to go off then drove home.
I assumed that when pulling the dash apart to fix the heater controls I must have knocked a plug for the wiper loom so back out comes the ashtray and heater control. Nothing amiss there, It all looks good.
At this point I decide to consult the Haynes manual (which so far has been unreliable at best).
It turns out that the fusebox icons that have windscreens and wipers on them are all to do with wiper park function. The wiper motors themselves share a fuse with the cig plug.
Obvious huh?
One fuse change and a dash reassembly and all is good..
Thing to remember from this? Read the manual, even if t is at best a guide; not gospel truth!

No pics of the Golf, I'll try to take some tomorrow. It's a black 5 door 1.4 16v.
It's pretty rough, 130k ish on the clock, gets through loads of oil, leaves clouds of blue smoke whenever the engine is under load. Some scratches to paintwork and a small dent in the bonnet.
It's missing the rubber lower part of the front bumper and has a couple of small electrical niggles.
The passenger door mirror got smashed the last time it was parked on a road.
It has a small crack in the middle of the windscreen (I can't see it when driving as it is obscured by the mirror) and the rear drivers side brake disc drags.
Good points? It never let me down and is pretty frugal on fuel, did several 600+ mile round trips no problem at all.
I've been offered £160 for it scrapped but if anybody else wants to take it off my hands for that price they are more than welcome.

Looks alright! Lower it on banded steels The clear rear lights go for big money and are very poor quality (look bad!!). Fit an euro rear cluster to lose the reverse light??

Hmm, hadn't thought about banding. That could be an idea.
Shame about the clear lights being expensive and poor quality. Don't want to fit euro rear clusters as it isn't the white reversing light I want to lose, it's the red and amber. Could tint the rear clusters but then I would have clear fronts and tinted rears which might look a bit odd and is hard to get right and still have usable lights.
Time to put my thinking cap back on.

You could match the rear lights to the plastic trim piece down the c-pillar, ie. black. If you used that fly-eyes stuff the lights would still work just as well.

fly-eyes stuff? Off to have a look what that is.
Just worked out the fuel consumption and given that I booted it all the way back from picking it up and am still driving it enthusiasticly is returning over 50mpg.

Hmm, found it. That fly-eyes stuff looks the way to go. Cheers robinmasters. I have plenty of R5 rear light clusters knocking about so will order some come payday and give it a go.

Tomorrow's mods will mostly be of the cost free variety. Since I have £30 to my name untill payday or the golf is sold.
Gonna trial fit the new bumper with holes cut for fogs and spots to try to see where I can actually mount the lights then permanently wire in an inverter.

Started dismantling the spare rear seats I have (from a GT Turbo) as I want split folding seats. The seat upholstery is fairly simple and I want to retrim the interior to go with the monochrome theme of the exterior. My thoughts were mainly black suede effect fabric with a centre section in something different.
Either vertical black and white stripes, 6mm gingham check or polka dots.
Thoughts?

curse word, Campuses don't have middle lugs for split rear seats although there is a cut out in the carpet for them. Time to raid the scraps bin and find the pop rivet gun.

curse word again, have found a few rusty patches that will need attention. The bottom of the offside wing is like a doily so I will just replace (I have a couple of sets of wings in stock). The end of the sill seems OK from my limited inspection tonight. It was full of mud which is probably why the bottom of the wing has rotted out so I will be washing thoroughly everywhere tomorrow whatever the weather,
Underneath the rear window seals there is lots of bubbling going on. The fixed rear window R5s always seem to go there as rain gets trapped against a spot welded seam.
Nothing seems too holey tho and the back where it curves seems solid so not too much of a job (unlike the last one I had which had been "repaired" with newspaper and filler) rear quarter panels are no longer available so that's a god send.
Will pop the windows out remove the rust, paint and then silicone the rubbers back in.
I want to fit opening rear windows when I can afford them as they seem to suffer a lot less from rust. Probably because there is less of a water trap on them.

I had a go at getting the front wing off today. The 4 bolts on top came out fine, rivet concealed by bumper no probs.
Where I hit a snag was where the wing bolts to the sill. The front of it is covered with a liberal coating of stone chip and paint. I used mouse milk (the best penetrating oil ever) on the back of the thread but cos of the paint and stone chip, couldn't squirt any under the front. So fat I have snapped 3 torqs bits off trying to get it undone.
I don't have access to my angry grinder to take the paint off and squirt some mouse milk in from the front. I will try dremmeling the paint/stone chip off tomorrow then giving it a good dose of mouse milk.
Any other suggestions for getting the thing out are welcome. I tried drilling a pilot hole for a screw extractor and this bolt is harder than a very hard thing!

This thread is a fantastic read, the car has lots of potential. One idea would be to weld/tack another bolt on to the torque head, probs a easier way but thats my 2 bobsbworth. Btw were the hell do you get mouse milk from?!

Mouse milk sorted it after scraping all the stone chip off the front and a couple of applications.
This stuff is really good, much better than Plus Gas or WD40 as a dismantling fluid. I even took some of my very limited supply to work cos it makes my job so much easier.
So the crusty wing is now off and an inspection of the sill end reveals that it it is as solid as a rock. Result!
When it all goes back together I will figure out a way of making it less of a dirt trap than before (or just wash it properly, unlike previous owners).
I think I ended up welding a bolt on in this situation on my last R5 exactly as you describe projectquartz. Luckily, this time I didn't have to.

Work has slowed on this car due to 2 linked factors. I am only getting about 24 hours a week work & pay isn't being paid. . Having said that, I have a new wing to go on next week & then all the grot is sorted. The paint has had a good going over with T-cut (well, a cheapo alternative) and now the paint shines & even beads in the rain. I have removed the nasty Prima decals & am toying with the idea of some Stormtrooperesque ones to replace them. Bumpers and side trims will be black by next week, as will the mirrors. Then I will fit clear indicators & repeaters, try out the tinted rears I have and then maybe take some pics.

This is probably the easiest to get printed up and applied to the car. But of all the Stormtroopery stuff I found online, this is the one I think deserves most to be turned into black and white line work and put the full width of your tailgate for great lols.

Hmm, this thing is lethal in the wet. Locked the front wheels at under 20mph yesterday. Tyre pressures and tread are all OK so it looks like some new rubber is a priority come payday.
Is there a way of telling the age of a tyre? I had a look at the spare wheel and suspect it may be original which makes it 18 years old.
Every tyre on the car is from a different manufacturer (including the spare) Which I'm not comfy with at all.
Volks, I need to figure out a way to translate that "see no evil etc" pic into vinyl.
