I would like to know what rim width I can get away with to fit 185 wide tyres. Current tyes are 145 70 R13's on a renault 5. I know I can get away with 185s in the arches as I have done it before.
Current wheels are 4.5" which Google suggests is a bit too far. I don't mind going to 14" rim if that makes finding a wider one easier

5 inches is a minimum really, if you want 13" rims i would try clio ones

As above but ideally you want 5.5J width as that's what 185 section tyres were designed for. Failing that get some 5J and fit 175 section tyres as they'd go on ok?

I've seen 185 60 13's on 4" but looked horrible & not something I'd like to drive. 5" + should be fine though IMO

Yeh, don't want them hanging over the rims. They need to fit and look right. Looking for other 13" Renault rims now. Ebay is a pain in the bottom as most sellers of second hand wheels list them with tyres on and only put the tyre size.
