Picked up a car today that I bought off ebay. Mostly seems fine & drove great on the 50 mile trip home. No overheating or worrying noises.
There are a couple of things that are bothering me. No 1 is that the coolant tank was full of a jelly like substance.
The oil cap is free of mayo & there was no sign of pressurization of the cooling system so I don't think it is head gasket. A quick google suggests that it might be caused by mixing 2 different types of anti-freeze.
Will a coolant flush and refill sort this?
The other worry is that the heater vents are always blowing warm. Judging by the feel of the temperature dial, I think that this is just a control cable problem as the dial turns too easily/ doesn't offer the resistance I would expect.
Could it be caused by anything a bit more serious?
