It's a difficult one to properly describe, so if you haven't already, you might be better off reading through the full story of last Saturday when Pollitt and I headed down to Torquay to meet up with BiAS. It might paint a fuller and more thorough picture giving a better perspective about this actual post. Details of our jaunt and fantastic day out are here: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=readersrides&thread=125964&page=12#1561857It was at the point after eating our chips on the seafront when Ian (BiAS) turns around and says, "So how do you guys fancy popping up to see my mate Mike's place? I'm sure he's got some stuff there you'll like" Who were we to question it? We headed up out to a remote part of the Torbay area and as soon as we pulled up our jaws were on the floor. Stuff me might like? Good God, understatement of the year! The following photos are just a brief snapshot of what we saw. I'd say this set of 50 photos represents about 25%, probably not even that! There are even more photos to come when I get back off holiday. That set of photos will show another side to the whole experience.....it'll all make sense when I post them up. I'll shut up now and let you see just some of what we saw that day. Sure they banger race, but DO NOT start jumping to conclusions MkII Jag anyone? Have another... ....and another... ....and another (get the idea?) It's not just MkII's though. Early P4 anyone? Mk2 & MkII Cars and parts quite literally everywhere... Quite a diverse range too.

By the way, just to clarify, this is NOT a scrapyard....it's a collection of cars owned by one family. "Some people hate to see them like this, but they are art and most were beyond repair before they arrived. We've saved quite a few cars along the way with the bits we've taken off them and I am sure we'll save quite a few more. It's not how it first appears to most people"
Being there and having spent a good few hours immersing myself in the place, I can say hand on heart that they really are art. I could quite literally and very easily spend days photographing the place....whole days. If they were all highly polished and complete I don't think it would have had anywhere near the same feel. It was truly awesome to be taken up there and I know Pollitt felt the same.
More photos to come.....

Kev, your name was mentioned many, many times. Pretty much all the time in fact.
If my phone had signal I'd have been on the phone making jealous happen. Probably a good thing it was remote and my phone no worky.

This was built out of scrap box section, an 'in line' A-series running a transfer box & 4WD, side mount steering (you sit sideways) and apparently was an absolute hoot. My kind of motor! "I was bored so made this out of stuff lying around....it was awesome and so much fun. Then I got bored one day and it hasn't moved since" This making stuff and getting bored seems to happen a lot. There is a lot of cool stuff just like this kicking around the place.

As Bruce has said, this place truly was on another level. No hyperbole, no one-upmanship, there truly was something new and exciting everywhere we looked.
I know Bruce feels the same when I say that upon leaving, it felt like and honour and privilege to have been allowed into such a place.
Jaw dropping. Awesome. And now I want a Jag.

I know Bruce feels the same when I say that upon leaving, it felt like and honour and privilege to have been allowed into such a place. 100%....and yet made to feel so welcome and part of it while we were there. I'd love to go back sometime to spend a whole day there with the camera (with consent of course) now that I know what's there and how it all works - I am sure you won't need convincing to come along? Might take Ian in my car next time though....for the sake of Jeds sanity ;D

One of my fave cars there. It's a real shame that 'frilly around the edges' would be a real compliement. Those rear lights are pretty special. Stunning in real life. The dash is pretty awesome too.

Not sure on the place being totally jaw dropping, but your pics certainly make it that appear that way.. many more eof us would have wandered round, snaped a few pics and made it look rubbish
Bruce, the pics really give it depth, age and character, almost tells a story that gives it that jaw dropping feeling too..
many thanks for sharing with us - keep up the good pics too...
i know i'll never be anywhere as good, one of the reasons i'm gonna sell my camera eqt and go back to just a standard point n shoot...

One car that really struck me was this Riley (that's what I think it is?) What a stunning slice of motoring, I bet it was quite a machine in its day? My absolute fave though was this Bedford truck cab. Just so awesome...complete with armco bumper I was a little bit sad when I noticed just how little actual metal was left of it...but what an awesome ornament to have. Patina? .....it's got plenty of that. And then some. I wanted to bring it back with me, keeping the patina and graphics 'just so' and stick it onto an Iveco chassis and make something cool....but I fear the second it gets moved it'll just crumble. Well, that's some of the photos I took. The rest I'll upload when I get back off my hols. Just think, this is someones 'garden'....and just wait until you see what else they've got out the back of their house!

The Riley is an RM-series from the early 50's.
The A-type Bedford would almost certainly have seen service with gerry Dommett's 'Autospeed' outfit that have been in the business for over 50 years and still run short circuit oval racing in the South West at Smeatharpe and St.Day.
An AWESOME set of photographs, Bruce, Thanks for sharing them.
