Basicly whilst strengthening the gimp two plates have been welded together, the problem is there's bare metal in between them with no way to get paint on it... Although once sealed no water can get in..
Will this rust? Mate reckons I should've used weld through prime?
Really don't want to cut it all off?

Yes yes it will rust.Moisture will find a way in and it`ll rust inside out.Id bite the bullet and sort it now i think unless its easy to get to and you can leave it til it starts to show on the outside and do it then.

Well, I'm in the process of cutting rot out of my van and have found a piece which is suffering at a guess, from this very thing! And I can only see that cutting it all out and redoing it is the only way to banish the rust!
Mind you, my van is 33 years old, depends what sort of use the car will get and where it'll be stored? And if it's easier to do now and whether it will be a right ballache to get to down the line!

Drill a little hole and spray waxoyl/paint/used engine oil inside? Careful if you weld the hole back up again though, especially if you use waxoyl. It appears to be a little bit flammable

It appears to be a little bit flammable This is what I was going to say too. Can't vouch for the long term livability of it though. You'd need to drench it with paint till your sure it's all covered than all would be fine at a guess.

I'd drill a hole and use a decent cavity wax (like Bilt Hamber) that'll stop the rust forming.

Even though it does say it's galvanizing spray, it just doesn't seem strong enough. It's lasted 4 months outside though, so can't complain too loudly.
