from the BBc website: The owner of a classic car restoration business destroyed by a fire at a nearby fireworks factory says a unique vehicle has gone. The 1956 Studebaker gold hawk was destroyed in the blaze at Firemagic, near Clevedon, on Friday. Three people were taken to hospital after the fire. Keith Birch, director of Bristol Classic and Sports Cars, said: "We've destroyed people's trust - through no fault of our own." He added: "My main concern is that five people depend on this place for a living." Several Mark 2 Jaguars, a Daimler V8 and a Jaguar XK150 were also lost in the fire. The blaze is not being treated as suspicious. "

Golden Hawk. Not the most attractive Studebaker ever ... shame though, for both owners and staff there.

Thats a rum do alright, looks like some newer stuff has gone up too, in fact that angular looking shell next to the Mk 2 Jag looks like it could be a 70`s or `80s motor that the BBC perhaps understandably wouldnt think was worth mentioning. Thats gotta be a kick in the balls for anyone who runs a business out of that unit. One of my worst nightmares really.

Golden Hawk was a superb car. V8 engines, sometimes supercharged. Always did well in Bonneville land speed racing. Rare now.

Mate of mine has a unit next to the firework factory - luckily for him the fire went the other way and the worst of his damage is a smashed window, dust everwhere and a few tool boxes knocked over by the blasts. The classic car place is absolutely trashed, the engine of the XK is melted, there`s also supposed to be an E type and an AC Cobra gone too. There are various rumours flying around ay the moment as well, the firework factory has had trouble with vandals for a long time now and has camera s fitted everywher to try and stop them, so arson is being looked at as a possibility. The area is currently sealed offf as a crime scene. There are also questions as to whether the firework company were insured as the fireworkd were being stored inside and not in metal containers outside as they were supposed to be.

I live about 6 miles from where that happened, About 9pm on the night there was a noise like nothing I've heard before. It literally felt like a close tremor.

Hope the people in hospital aren't too badly burned/injured. Sights like this make me appreciate that things in my life could be worse after all.
